Hotel Jardins de Skoura, Ouarzazate

Les Jardins de Skoura is an unassuming yet finely converted farmhouse, 6km from the village of Skoura, nestling in a palm grove not far from the High Atlas Mountains. Here in the oasis region between Ouarzazate and the Merzouga desert, French owner Caroline worked with a team of 20 builders over 18 months in order to create her guest house in this ideally secluded spot.

The ‘jardins’ (gardens) in question feature fragrant varieties of vines and olive, apricot, pomegranate and fig trees. A nearby 12 metre swimming pool provides a welcome cooling dip during the warmer months. Guests reside in five rooms and three suites that have each been individually decorated in their own warm and very traditional style. All rooms have comfy beds and heating (winter nights can be chilly), including fireplaces within the suites, whilst thick walls help keep them cool in summerwithout the need for air-conditioning. A living room with a fireplace looks out over the mountains, whilst the roof terrace offers a panoramic view all around the mountains and the palm groves.

Les Jardins de Skoura also has its own shop which sells crafts and Argan cosmetics. A range of activities can be organised through the hotel, such as donkey riding and picnics, trips to the Dadès and Draa Valley, and excursions in the surrounding countryside with a local English-speaking guide. This is a well-placed oasis from which to explore the astonishing sights of the area.

Walkers will be able to hike the paths on Mont M'Goum, a sanctuary for nomadic peoples.

We stayed at Les Jardins de Skoura for 5 nights as we wished to find somewhere to relax. It more than lived up to our expectations.
It was indeed a quite magical place: our suite was simple yet tastefully furnished and we had a private balcony as well as a quite extensive lounging area outside the room. The gardens were a delight and the friendly gardener loved to talk about what he was planting and growing. All the staff were delightful: totally professional yet friendly and attentive. The food was excellent: breakfast taken outside even in February on the terrace was most relaxing and the evening meal a culinary triumph.

Here's What Some People Have Written On Other Review Sites or in the Hotel's Guestbook:

"The gardens are lovely and a visit to the local kasbah is interesting. But the highlight of our stay was a 3 hour trip (mostly walking) round the oasis. Very reasonably priced and our guide Kemal was great fun."

"The staff are very attentive and willing to please. The food was excellent, well spiced and well prepared. They made a special meal for my wife who is vegetarian. I would strongly consider staying here and was very sorry that I only chose to stay one night!!"

"We were charmed by this hotel. Everything was exactly right. The room was very clean and the decoration was lovely. The service was excellent and the owner helped so much to make the best of our visit. As well as all this, I have to mention the location: although a little difficult to get to, the palm grove is such a wonderful situation. And what we liked the most was to sit down and watch the sunset from the terrace. Impressive! "

A Word From The Owner

An ideal setting to meditate in peace, stroll amongst the palm groves and explore a bygone region and its forgotten villages in the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains.

We Say

Les Jardins de Skoura conveniently lies on the route through the High Atlas from Marrakech to the edge of the desert. It's much more than just accommodation en-route though: it takes a few days at least to fully appreciate the delightful location, the charming hostess and the rugged beauty of the surroundings.
