News from Little Hotels, Edition 4

We hope you enjoyed pleasant Christmas and New Year celebrations, and no doubt you are now thinking about your holidays for this coming year. Here are a few ideas for you to consider.

St Valentines Day

Gentlemen, treat the lady in your life to a special weekend away. Here are a few suggestions:

Stay in the Amor y Locura suite (“Love and Madness”!) at Castillo El Collado. You’ll have to hurry though, because there is only one Amor y Locura.

For a really away-from-it-all weekend with your loved one, what could be better than a stay at Mirabo de Valldemossa, tucked away in the mountains of Mallorca? Contact us for a special price.

Puerto El Peral is offering a 4 course dinner with French Champagne, at the same price as a normal dinner.

For a romantic escape in San Sebastian, Villa Soro has a special package including Cava, flowers and an aromatherapy massage.

Mix your romantic stay away with some Andalucian sunshine at Albero Lodge.

Even if you can’t whisk her away on a white charger, you can still sweep her off to a castle. Castell D’Emporda.

Indulge her in the lovely Convent de la Missió in Palma. A special city for a special trip away.

Sa Pedrissa is a romantic spot high up on the rocky northern coastline of Mallorca, with a special Valentine deal for you.

Ladies, if he doesn’t take the hint, book it yourself and tell him afterwards.

Easter

If you can’t get away for St Valentines Day, Los Castaños has something special for you at Easter too. They provide a 5 night package to celebrate Easter in a small Andalucian mountain village. This is the ideal way to soak up the local culture and join in the festivities of this fun-loving locality.

Recent New Hotels

We never stop adding hotels to our lists. Here are a few we’ve put on recently:
Biniarroca, Menorca. A fabulous place run by an artist and a fashion designer, so as you can imagine, every little detail is “just so”. They have a renowned gourmet restaurant too.
Puerta de Las Granadas, in Granada. Right in the centre of the old town, ideal for visiting the Alhambra. Also, only 40 minutes from the ski stations of the Sierra Nevada.
Son Lladó, Mallorca, is a 28 acre organic smallholding with four little apartments, each in a converted farm building. Choose from self-catering to a full hotel service.
Hospedería Convento de La Parra, Badajóz, Extremadura sits in the little-known part of Spain that actually truly justifies the over-worn term "undiscovered Spain". See for yourself.
La Villa Marbella, Marbella, Andalucia. This is something a little bit special. A charming little house in the old town of Marbella, it gives you character and tranquillity yet is close to the heart of the Marbella nightlife (and the beach). There are just 4 rooms, so personal attention is guaranteed.

Our White Christmas

We had a white Christmas here in Almería! Well, to be honest, I am stretching the point a bit. We went for a walk on Christmas afternoon, a bit further up the mountain from home. Looking inland, we could see the Filabres mountains about 25 miles away with just a little dusting of snow on the peaks. For real snow around here, you have to go to the Sierra Nevada. You could stay in one of our hotels in Granada (Casa Morisca or Puerta de las Granadas), from where you could go skiing in the morning and sunbathing on the beach in the afternoon.

Something Different

If you are looking for a very different sort of holiday this summer, Da Fervenza is a little rural hotel lost in the solitude of a forest in Galicia. It looks a bit of a trek to get there, but actually you can fly to Santiago de Compostela from Heathrow, so it’s nearly as easy as getting to the Costa Del Sol.

Flights and Ferries

To help you arrange your 2005 holidays, we have added a new page to our website, giving details of all the scheduled flights between the UK and Spanish airports, including the Balearics and the Canaries. Just pick your destination and you can see who flies from where in the UK. Easy.

Saving Money

I have just done a random price comparison of the cost of a holiday booked through Little Hotels, and one booked using a UK tour operator. Even I was staggered to find that you could have a holiday through Little Hotels for just half the cost of the brochure. I had to check and double-check before I believed it myself. Have a look on our FAQ page for the details. Of course, we’re not saving that you’ll save 50% every time, but on the other hand this was just a hotel and a brochure chosen at random; not carefully selected to make us look good. We think you should usually be able to make a 30% saving, and you will also have the extra flexibility of choosing exactly the dates you want, the type of room you want, the airport to fly from and your choice of hire car.

Happy holidays!
