Chateau de La Lanette

Salechan

A child-friendly small hotel in a country house in the Pyrenees. Perfect for active families.

Double rooms from £ 91
6 rooms
Garden, Chateau de la Lanette

The 3-storey Château de la Lanette was built as a small country house in 1887, and is characterised by its grand sweeping staircase and original parquet flooring. Today it is a family friendly bed-and-breakfast hotel located in Saléchan, a Pyrenean village in the foothills of the mountains, 12 miles from the attractive spa town of Bagnères-de-Luchon. There are just 5 guest rooms and a family suite, and all feature an individual marble fireplace and a pleasingly restrained design. Some of the rooms are notably spacious and have balconies. Families are particularly welcome, with a bundle of fun to be had by the children, with the swings, climbing frames and small pool. Then for couples travelling on their own, the garden is large enough to relax far away from the little ones. The backdrop, as might be predicted, is quite spectacular thanks to the mountains, and while the Pyrenees remains as popular as ever for its rural life and ideal position for further travel and exploration of different terrains, the values of this hotel are rooted in a simple, hospitable stay for a small number of guests.

Chateau de La Lanette is easily reached by rail, road or air, but it is still well away from urban distractions, and instead is well-placed for an abundance of outdoor activity and exploration. For instance, cyclists like to come here due to its proximity to Col des Ares, Port de Bales and Col de Menthe (all on the Tour de France trail). There are also 5 ski and snowboard resorts within an hour or so's drive. The hotel is just a 20-minute drive from the Le Mourtis and Superbagnères resorts. In summer this a good base for walking or fishing holidays, and for those of a more action-packed disposition, parapenting. In winter, it is of course a great centre for ski-ing and snow-boarding, with five different ski resorts in easy reach catering for all skill levels. Breakfast is served in the wood-panelled dining room with its Louis XIII chandelier, or on the terrace in the summer months, and consists of such items as pains au chocolat, croissants, bread and yoghurt. By request, dinner can also be taken at the hotel, and is a 3-course meal that may include starters like beetroot soup, goats cheese tartlets or smoked salmon and avocado terrines, and main dishes such as duck breast in a red berry sauce and regional tartifilette with a salad.Breakfast is served in the wood-panelled dining room with its Louis XIII chandelier, or on the terrace in the summer months, and consists of such items as pains au chocolat, croissants, bread and yoghurt. Here's What Some People Have Written On Other Review Sites or in the Guestbook:

"We travelled through Europe for 10 weeks this past summer and this was the most amazing place we stayed. Russell and Heather were incredible hosts! The property was beautiful. It is a dream honeymoon location! We will come back for ours!"

"Nothing too much trouble for Heather and Russell which made for a very relaxing stay. Their 2 children are great fun too; entertaining our daughter for hours and sharing their toys! The house is lovely and very well renovated with many of the original feature preserved. The food was also excellent with Heather using all local ingredients (and Russ keeps a great selection of nice wines to sample!)."

"Our son was in paradise- a huge garden with big trampoline, climbing frames, sandpit, ride-on toys (plus two keen playmates); goats and donkeys to feed just down the road; rivers to throw stones into...etc. etc. And plenty for the adults too- it is a stunning rural location with fantastic cycling & walking opportunities; even just hanging out on the terrace in the autumn sunshine watching the kids playing was a real treat. Heather and Russell offer babysitting on request but actually we chose to eat dinner at the chateau most nights, which meant we could relax over Heather's fantastic food in the dining room within easy range of the baby monitor (provided).
