It really seems quite incredible that a decaying old farmhouse could be transformed into this charmingly elegant hotel packed full of every luxury you could imagine (and one or two that are beyond imagination). This place promises an unforgettable holiday in the hills of Andalucia.
From the moment the hotel comes into view, it bathes the senses of the visitor in the ultimate in rustic chic. There are rubble-stone walls, handmade bricks, wood-panelled ceilings, stone pillars and mouldings, terracotta floors.
Situated in the Guadalhorce valley, Posada Los Cantaros has glorious mountain views all around. There are ample gardens full of fruit trees and native species. In the garden too is the huge terrace and swimming pool. More terraces close to the house look out on everything before them, a perfect place for breakfast or a romantic dinner.
Every one of the six guestrooms is a delight. The transition from farmhouse to luxury hotel has drawn the maximum of beauty from the natural materials on offer, and combined them with more luxury in the comfortable, elegantly-dressed beds with soft cotton sheets, the pristine furnishings and the oh-so-special bathrooms. Most notable of all is the Spa Suite with its own private spa leading from the bathroom, but every room is a joy to behold.
The gorgeous style of the rooms extends to the rest of the hotel where there is a sitting room, a library, a bar and even a games room for chess, cards and board games. The restaurant is a special feature too, with inside or outside dining to suit the occasion.
A holiday here in the mountains behind Malaga is something special. The coast and beaches are not far away but it is a completely different world here. Visit small villages, walk in the hills and mountains, see the spectacular town of Ronda or the even more spectacular El Chorro gorge.
A masterpiece of charming rustic chic blended with perfect luxury.
A Word from the Owner
When I set out on the road to become a hotelier I decided not to do what has already been done before. Instead I wanted to give a totally individual welcome, a friendly but discrete atmosphere, quality service, good food, to make the guest feel better than when at home.
I bought an old olive mill that had been consigned to oblivion, and after two years of hard work and not a little expense, we created what we have today: a charming little rural hotel, romantic and very very special.
Being passionate about good food, we finished off with an exceptional restaurant that has been recognised in the Michelin Guide.
Choice of two double rooms with great country farmhouse detailing. One has a large double bed that can be converted to twin beds. The other has a standard double bed.
Double bedroom with a private terrace. Large double bed. The bathroom includes both a hydromassage bath and a chromatherapy shower.
The Junior Suite is the largest room, including a 5m window. There is a small sofa and coffee table, perfect for breakfast in privacy. A sofa bed for two extra people is possible. Double bed 150 x 200 cm, with unique headboard and canopy. The bathroom includes both a hydromassage bath and a chromatherapy shower.
The Orquidea Suite has a large private terrace with table and chairs, looking out over the pool area and the Guadalhorce valley. Double bed 150 x 200 cm, with unique headboard and canopy. The large bathroom has both a hydromassage bath and a chromatherapy shower.
The Jazmin Spa Suite is the jewel in the crown for guests looking for the ultimate in luxury and privacy. Large canopied double bed and a comfortable sitting area. The large bathroom has both a hydromassage bath and a chromatherapy shower. Uniquely, this suite has it's own private spa with sauna, turkish bath and jacuzzi.
The restaurant at Posada Los Cantaros offers an amazing romantic dining experience. Indoors or out, the views of the Sierra de las Nieves are always there each time you raise your eyes. Chef Patrick provides a dinner full of creativity and taste highlighting local cuisine specialties and seasonal produce.
One speciality of the house is the stone-grilled meats: Aberdeen Angus steaks from Argentina, Iberico pork sirloin from Extremadura or Duck Magret.
Breakfast too is available in the restaurant or out on the terrace. What better way to start your day than sipping freshly squeezed orange while bathed in the soft light of the morning sun?
Walking, exploring, horse-riding, canoeing, caving, canyoning, cycling.
Most of these can be organised direct from the hotel.
Places to visit:
Sierra de las Nieves
Numerous pueblos blancos (white villages) in the area
Ronda, for the bullring, the Tajo bridge, the Tajo gorge and numerous museums
El Chorro gorge, a spectacular slash through the Sierra de Huma, up to 400m deep yet only a few metres wide in places
Camino del Rey. A crumbling walkway along vertical cliffs leading up to the Guadalhorce reservoir. Absolutely not recommended, but do look at the video on youtube
El Torcal Natural Park
