This charming little hotel is situated in the tiny village of Fornalutx, in the heart of the Sierra Tramuntana mountains that meander right along the north coast of Mallorca. Fornalutx Petit Hotel is a jewel of old rural Mallorquin architecture. Many years ago it was a convent for nuns, then later the village school and now, totally restored, it is a little hotel oozing with character.
On the front side the hotel faces onto the village street while behind the garden and pool look out onto the mountains. The pool is small but very stylish, more like a private pool than that of a hotel. And if that is not enough, there is also a jacuzzi in the garden and a sauna in the house, for the use of guests. There are two marvellous terraces where guests can enjoy their breakfast each morning to the accompaniment of birdsong.
With just eight guest rooms, the atmosphere is personal and discreet. Each of the rooms offers comfortable accommodation with TV, telephone, internet, air conditioning, and so on.
The Tramuntana mountains are ideal for any holiday, with good walking country all around, the rugged scenery of the north coast on the doorstep, and beautiful sandy beaches within a short drive.
Large double rooms at the front, facing onto a quiet traffic-free village street.
Large double rooms at the back of the house looking out over the garden, orange trees and the mountains.
A large room facing the garden and the mountains, with its own private balcony-for-two.
Large room with a sitting room, a small balcony and mountain views. The sitting room could be changed into a second bedroom.
A hidden-away ground-floor suite with it's own private terrace, a sitting room and even a small kitchenette.
Created in what was a little private chapel, this sweet has a sitting room and a private terrace with a spectacular view of the orange trees and the mountains.
Breakfast is served on the terraces outside, or in the stone-vaulted breakfast room. There is no restaurant in the hotel but there are 4 restaurants nearby that come highly recommended.
Tennis, walking, hiking, horse-riding, watersports, boat trips, sailing, canoeing, fishing. The Tramuntana mountains are an ideal base for walkers, especially outside of the hotter summer months.
Beaches: the north-west coast doesn't have long sandy beaches, but there are numerous little rocky coves to visit and explore.
Golf: 6 courses within easy distance.
Places to visit:
Palma (Cathedral, old quarter, Arab Baths, theatre, restaurants, fashionable shopping)
Valldemossa (ancient mountain village)

"If you want a romantic, peaceful, laid back holiday this is the place to go. Don’t expect everyone to speak fluent English, don’t expect easy parking if you’ve got a car – it’s a village, space is limited! Love it! Love it! Love it!"
"An intimate hotel that overlooks mountains, is off the beaten path in a quaint little town surrounded by orange groves. A gem not to be missed."
"Another boutique hotel but in an amazing mountain-side setting. Views to die for - and if the hot-tub/jacuzzi had been working and the infinity pool had been warm it would have been fantastic - but it didn't and the pool was freezing! It seemed to lack something - it was rather quiet and dark in the evening - we wanted to sit out and read on the terrace but it wasn't lit up. A good breakfast on the terrace though - location was definitely the selling point."
