, Partida La Casota, s/n, Vall de Laguart.
There is a lot of history at La Casota. This is a hotel that is not just comfortable, friendly and pleasing; it is also an insight to a history and way of life now long past. The location was probably chosen (in the 12th century) for its defensive capability but visitors today appreciate it for the stunning views. Situated on the old road from the coast to the mountains, La Casota affords views right over the coastal plain, the coastal towns like Denia and Jávea and even as far as Ibiza.
La Casota consists of a range of former agricultural buildings that have been restored to make a stunningly picturesque little hotel. First among these is the Riu-Rau, once a place for drying raisins but now the location of the four double guestrooms, each with their own access to the garden. The Casa de La Era is open to all guests. It houses the lounge and sitting room, comfy rooms packed with character and including a fireplace for winter and a small library. There is also the dining room and the bodega.
Less functional but adding immensely to the charm and character of La Casota are the ruins of the 12th century Almohad tower and the Wash-house. The Wash-house is an open structure under a porticoed roof with a central "fuente" filled with goldfish. If the summer sun gets a little too much, it's a lovely shady spot to pass the time.
All around the buildings are the gardens full of shrubs, flowers and herbs. There is also a large sun terrace surrounding the pool, and like everywhere at la Casota, the terrace has a great view.
Dining at La Casota consists of imaginative and carefully-prepared cuisine based on home-grown organic produce. To whet the appetite, think of all these possibilities: vegetable pastries, "escalivadas" (roast vegetables), vegetable crepes, seasonal salads, gilthead bream baked in salt with vinegar and oil dressing flavoured with capers, cod with Swiss chard in a hot pepper sauce, mackerel "allipebre" (mackerel marinated in garlic and pepper), cous-cous (a traditional dish in the area), loin of pork in orange sauce, cakes, mousses, fresh fruit water-ices and ice creams.
Breakfast consists of freshly squeezed natural juices, home-made buns freshly baked each morning, toast, fruit, home-made jams, fresh cheeses, coffee, tea, etc.
Out and About
The Vall de Laguart is a paradise for walkers and ramblers: -There are several clearly marked "Short-Distance Rambling Paths" in the vicinity of La Casota, including in particular: the PRV-147, known as the cathedral of Valencian Short-Distance Rambling Paths, which follows an old Morisco bridle path, including more than 6,700 steps, and which crosses the Barranco del Infierno twice; the PRV-181, which starts from the Font del Gel and leads up to the Cavall Verd and along the crest of the sierra; and the "Fountain Route", which winds its way down to the abandoned Isbert dam.
-The descent to the gorges of the Barranco del Infierno, beyond the "Cova Santa" or Holy Cave, where the sun never enters.
-Visits to the various groups of rock paintings, representing macroschematic art.
The beaches of the Costa Blanca are only 20 minutes away by car.
Golf: La Sella (18 holes) 20 Km, and Oliva Nova Golf (18 holes) 25 Km.
Watersports: There are windsurfing and diving schools in Denia and Jávea.
Boat tours and yacht charter.
The area offers countless possibilities: rock paintings, ancient Iberian settlements, castles of the Arab and Christian eras, etc.
The towns of Denia and Gandía are well worth visiting with their archaeological remains and the Palace of the Borgias.
The "Terra Mítica" Theme Park, 45 Km away, and the Vergel Safari Park, a mere 19 Km distant, complete the range of leisure activities.
The Riu-Rau is an old porticoed construction originally designed for storing raisins overnight, refurbished and divided into four separate double rooms each with views and individual access to the mediterranean garden.
Each room has a full en-suite bathroom, air conditioning and heating, hair dryer, TV if required, wi-fi, little table beside the windows for a cup of tea, pure cotton linen, etc.
Built close to the Almohad tower, this studio-apartment has a double bedroom, a full bathroom, a sitting/dining-room with a wood burning stove and a sofa bed perfect for children, a kitchenette and a veranda with incredible views to the mountains and the sea.
This recently renovated cottage stands apart, overlooking the pool and the views to the coast. Built on two floors it has a fully equipped kitchen, a lounge with a log-burner for winter, a barbecue, television, etc. Very comfortable for 6, with enough room for 10 people.

|If there is a better place to stay in Spain then well good luck looking. Amazing rural casa with great views, pool, garden and just about eveything. Joaquina, Rachela and Svieta made us so welcome and simply can't do enough for you. For the first time ever we stayed in the same place and ate every night. The food is fresh and interesting along with the very reasonably priced wine! There is no doubt we will be going back and taking friends. Thanks for such a great time.|
|A unique place to spend some relaxing days in the most beautiful part of Alicante. The magnificent views, the unbeatable service, delicious food. Simply, a 10.|
