Reasons to visit Bath

When the Romans came to Aquae Sulis they discovered the hot springs there and built themselves a huge and exotic bath house that gave the city it's name. After the departure of the Romans there was a short pause until Bath was re-established as a Georgian city with numerous civic buildings, magnificent terraces and a re-built spa on top of the original Roman bath.

Today a visit to the Roman Baths is an absolute must: to see and enjoy both the ancient history and the Georgian architecture, all rendered in honey-coloured Bath stone. It's a well-presented and fascinating story.

There is much more to Bath than this though. The expansion during Georgian times has endowed Bath with beautiful architecture at every turn, as this was one of the most fashionable places in 18th century England. Most notable are the famous Royal Crescent and the Pulteney Bridge spanning the Avon. Don't miss them!

Bath Abbey is one of the ecclesiastical jewels of England with magnificent stained glass windows, and some of the finest fan vaulting in the world. A tower tour takes you behind the scenes and also affords a birds-eye view of the city.

Bath is a magnet for the best shops, best restaurants and best pubs and bars, so a visit to the city is a delight on every level.
