Chic and simple, but utterly tasteful, the refurbishment of this old townhouse into a modern little hotel is impressive. Facilities are few, but this is a wonderfully different way to spend some time on this beautiful island.

The generous space behind Hotel Abril 37 has been converted into an urban ecological garden, complete with an orchard and vegetable garden, making it a perfect place to disconnect and relax on the terrace. This is a space of calm and tranquillity, seemingly far from the bustle of the town. On the ground floor there is a lounge with a sofa and armchairs, an ideal place to chat or read while having a coffee or tea with pastries.

Abril 37 is just a short step from busy harbourside of Ciutadella, an area awash with bars and restaurants catering for all tastes and budgets. Boat trips are also available there, or simply relax, settle down and watch the world go by.

The bedrooms are light and bright, and decorated in a charmingly minimalist style. They all have double beds and en-suite bathrooms, as well as televisions, free wi-fi, minibars, safes and air-conditioning. Four of them have direct access to a small private terrace. One room on the ground floor has a bathroom that is wheelchair accessible.

Meals

Tea, coffee and cakes are available, and there's a minibar in each bedroom. Otherwise you'll have to go out to eat, but that's hardly a hardship in Ciutadella. There is a multiplicity of bars and restaurants in the area offering all sorts of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Out and About

Ciudadella: There are fabulous fish restaurants along the harbourside. Boat rides also go from the harbour. And there's a great cathedral too.
Beaches: Cala Turqueta, Macarella, Es Talaier, Son Saura for complete peace. Santa Galdana, Santo Tomas and others for more facilities.

As Menorca is such a small island, everything is within easy reach. Try:
Mahon (At the other end of the island. Huge natural harbour and English Georgian architecture.)
