Finca Las Longueras
, Ctra. Al Valle de Agaete, Km.2.5 , Agaete, Gran Canaria.
Finca Las Longueras is an eye-catching colonial mansion dating from 1895 when it was built as an autumn residence for the Manrique de Lara family. Still owned by the same family, the hotel is set amidst a large estate with papayas, mangos, avocados, onion fields and orange trees.
Known locally as La Casa Roja (the Red House) for pretty obvious reasons, the hotel is decorated with bold colours that blend harmoniously with wood and fine fabrics in the interior. The rooms are further decorated with collections of photographs, paintings and antiques, many of the paintings being the work of friends and family. There is a dining room, a sitting room, tv room, meeting room, fitness centre, snack bar and even a private chapel.
For guests there are 9 double rooms, 2 junior suites (in a separate building slightly away from the main house) and 1 suite. They are spacious and elegant, some furnished with a double bed and others with twin beds. The junior suites have their own terraces and are built on two levels.
The gardens are a revelation, with ancient trees and the delicate scent of orange blossom in the spring. There are terraces for sitting out and a chlorine-free swimming pool surrounded by palm and orange trees, and with views of the Agaete valley all round. Nature lovers can take long or short walks straight from the hotel, and a ramble along the valley will soon bring a fabulous view of the Atlantic Ocean.
Tourism only touches lightly on this part of Gran Canaria. The village of Agaete is just a couple of kilometres away where there are several restaurants. Then just a little further and you will reach the harbour and marina, and the black sand and gravel beaches. The ferry leaves here for Tenerife, making an exciting and unusual day trip.

Reviews from Little Hotels Travellers:
This is simply a fantastic place. If you like to walk or like to relax by the pool, read a book or work on your computer on the verandas (Wifi works perfect) surrounded by orange fields and mountains - it is perfect. If you like to live in a hacienda with the feeling of a century of Canary culture still alive in the furniture of the living rooms and the sleeping rooms - with uptodate bathrooms - this is perfect. |
Five stars +++ Warwick and I had the most wonderful 7 day stay at Finca Las Longueras. A lovely colonial style hotel, with incredible views in every direction. Our room (5) was delightful, furnished to suit the period, spacious with views over the cactus garden and also enjoying the last of the evening sun. All the staff were simply charming, however, I must say Elsa, who met us on our arrival, cooked the most delicious suppers each evening and also arranged pre- supper drinks was truly first class and nothing was too much trouble! Lourdes, the lovely manager, who speaks several languages, was superb and suggested some wonderful trips up into the mountains, down into the valleys and if necessary how to find some extra sun. Breakfast was also fabulous, enjoyed with the most magnificent views and again the staff were so friendly and fun. We hope to go back later in the year. Thank you to all at Las Longueras for a cracking week. |
We had a lovely time at Las Longueras. The bed was big and comfortable, the room was clean and airy, the shower was powerful and hot water plentiful. The breakfasts were delicious, fresh squeezed orange juice from the trees we looked onto, delicious local ham, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, boiled eggs, all lovely and fresh, perfect melon, cheeses, mixed fruits, cereals, pastries and endless coffee. We came and went as we pleased, dinner at the hotel on the first evening was good plain cooking, perfectly adequate a fixed menu for 16 euros but after we discovered the seafood at Puerto de las Nieves we ate there every night and some lunch as well. The hotel ‘snack bar’ operates at lunchtime every day and the honesty box system for helping oneself to cold drinks, water/soft drinks and beers works very well. There is an excellent restaurant just up the road from the hotel, Casa Lolo, which looks like a roadside shack but is very much worth stopping at. The hotel swimming pool is immaculate although took a bit of a deep breath to get into in February as did the sea. Lots of walking to be done all around the hotel – serious stuff if that is what you want and gentle strolls too. The springs in the valley mean that it is green and full of birdsong. A delightful and relaxing place to stay, highly recommend. |
Very pleasant small hotel, staff excellent, food can be described as hearty and local but OK, good fish restaurants in the port of Agaete and steak to die for just up the road to San Pedro in a roadside bar/cafe. Our Junior Suite was comfortable but accessible up a steep path from the main hotel (unless one took a car up and down every time one wanted to eat or swim) which caused us some problem as we both had limited mobility. Generally the hotel is not that poor-mobility friendly but we managed. Perhaps accessibility to suites could be noted on the website for information. Overall very enjoyable. |
We stayed at Las Longueras for 10 days. We loved this small hotel. Friendly staff, intimate atmosphere, in a wonderful setting. The Paella evening was a great success! |
This is a property which has plenty of charm and character and is somewhere to certainly find solitude. The staff are helpful and very pleasant. There is however always a downside and that is that the property is in need of some TLC which surely a property with this much character deserves, the bathrooms in particular. |
What a beautiful, rural hotel set in a valley in the mountains. We picked this hotel firstly from a picture of the view from the swimming pool towards the mountains. The reality more than lived up to the expectation. It was heaven. The hotel had great character and you could feel it's history through the walls. The staff were lovely and could. It do enough for us and there was a friendly, family atmosphere throughout. We chose the half board option as we were not bothered about going out at night and just wanted a completely relaxing break. The food is nothing fancy - just simple, good, homemade and filling. There are lots of lovely walks around should you feel the need for exercise. If you want a chilled, relaxing break in a friendly, easy going atmosphere you won't be disappointed with Las Longueras. We would recommend this hotel without hesitation and plan to stay there again with family. |
We did want to say what a lovely place Las Longueras, Agaete, Gran Canaria was. A beautiful house in a lovely setting, with wonderful colours throughout; very cheering and pleasing aesthetically. Very comfortable and welcoming room and friendly service. Excellent breakfasts; rather dull evening meals, and not much to offer around either we found. Hope this is helpful; we will be booking other places through you again, that?s for sure! Thank you. |
As last year, the hotel, it's location and the staff are fantastic! Lourdes was particularly helpful and Juan was very attentive to our needs, coming to us personally at breakfast to see if we wanted 'huevos', 'uno or dos'? It was great to be back there again and Lourdes, Juan and Eva all remembered us. It all added to the personal touch and 'the family feel' of the hotel. |
