For a real taste of authentic Fuerteventura, Hotel Rural Mahoh ticks an awful lot of boxes. Created in 2002 from the ruins of a cluster of cottages, it was the first “hotel rural” in this part of the island. Constructed of local volcanic stone and new and reclaimed timbers, it gives it’s guests a real flavour of Fuerteventura.
Villaverde is less a village and more a cluster of houses draped liberally across the volcanic plain. Hotel Mahoh sits in grounds of 6000m2, leaving room for a swimming pool, terrace, garden and a multisport court frequently used for tennis.
The adjoining restaurant maintains the same style as the hotel, both in decor and the menu. Many dishes will be familiar from other parts of Spain, but others will introduce you to the unique food culture of Fuerteventura.
The walls in the guest rooms, and even in the bathrooms, are volcanic stone, topped with big wooden rafters and wooden ceilings. There’s plenty more wood in the furniture too, including antique beds and wardrobes, fourposters in some rooms, and solid wood everywhere. Modern comforts are not forgotten, with a flatscreen television, fridge and walk-in showers.
Located between the west and east coasts, neither is very far. It’s a 10 minute drive to the beaches of El Cotillo (west) and a similar distance to Corralejo (east) with it’s long sandy beaches and extensive sand dunes. The artisan village of La Alcogida is 15 minutes away, it’s 20 the the capital El Puerto, and 25 to the airport.
Meals
The adjoining Restaurante Mahoh is open to residents and non-residents alike. The stylre reflects the same rural culture as the hotel.
The menu is a union of Canarian and Mediterranean cuisine, including, for example, cheeks of Iberian ham with a pure of sweet potato, fired octopus with a mousse of peppers. Other Fuerteventura specialities include goat and fresh fish from la Bocaina (the strait between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote). Then for meat lovers, the grill offers every sort of cut straight from the farms of Galicia.

Here's What Some People Have Written On Other Review Sites or in the Guestbook:
The staff were both professional and friendly. The food is exquisite, inexpensive, there's a gluten-free option, and the place is lovely and so well-kept. We were charmed: the best on the island for both food and service, a real pleasure. |
This historic rural hotel, set in a well maintained cacti garden, has an excellent and popular restaurant serving quality Canarian food. The rooms are round the back, have bare stone walls and antique furniture, ours had a four poster bed which was very comfortable. The covered swimming pool was a real bonus as it was warm but pretty windy when we arrived. Good choice at the breakfast buffet. Walk out to see the nearby windmills for fantastic views. |
Stayed here for 3 nights as part of a cycle tour. The room was lovely - very traditional and full of character. The restaurant was very accommodating - we had the half board option. And we had secure bike storage. The courtyard made for a lovely atmosphere with our group being able to socialise whenever we wanted. |
For our first visit to Fuerteventura we chose this hotel in order to get to know the north of the island. Everything was totally correct. A lovely house, very quiet, very clean, with everything to hand (pool, restaurant, a supermarket 20m away) and above all very friendly people. |
