Hotel Rural El Mondalón in Gran Canaria is a small country hotel, located in a unique position on the edge of the Bandama Natural Monument volcanic caldera.
The garden is a happy blend of lawn and terrace bordered by shrubs and fields. The swimming pool has it’s own broad terrace with sunbeds. It features solar heating, a waterfall and hydromassage jets. There are superb views of the volcanic landscape and mountains. A central patio courtyard with a tree covered porch leads to the upper guest rooms and a lounge.
The air-conditioned rooms at El Mondalón include a minibar, heating, a safe, tea and coffee making facilities and free Wi-Fi. Two types of pillow are available and the modern bathroom comes with a hairdryer. Four of the rooms have their own terrace with a garden table and chairs.
The coast is less than 2 miles away, but it is the mountain scenery and most especially the Caldera de Bandama which makes this location stand out. The crater has the most perfect symmetry of any in the Canaries. It’s 1000m in diameter and 200m deep. It will take about 30 minutes to follow the trail to the bottom where there is the remarkable archaeological site, a cave that served as a home for prehistoric inhabitants of Gran Canaria.
Meals
There are two choices for eating at El Mondalón. The Mondalón Restaurant is a suave glass-fronted room facing out onto a restaurant terrace overlooking the vineyards. It serves innovative Canarian cuisine. For a more rustic and informal environment, the Bodegón is a substantial stone building with a high ceiling and a wooden roof. The food is traditional, made with the finest local ingredients and with a very personal touch. The origin of the Bodegón is as a wine bodega, and the El Mondalón wine (from the hotel’s own vineyard) is still produced there.

Here's What Some People Have Written On Other Review Sites or in the Guestbook:
Very relaxing. Quiet and a great base for exploring the north of the island. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the rooms spacious. Good showers too - and exceptional for hotels IMHO a Wi-fi repeater in the rooms with an impressive 60mbps! Breakfasts are in the bodega - which they use on Fridays for a bbq. Otherwise there is a restaurant. |
Delightful location away from the madness of the coast. Peaceful and pretty hotel with very friendly and efficient staff. Good food and wine in the restaurant and plenty of choice in the breakfast room. Spacious bedroom if a little basic but very comfortable bed and excellent shower. Private sitting space outside with accessible ground floor rooms. Lovely grounds. Well located for exploring Las Palmas the east coast and the central highlands. |
I want to make a special mention of assistant manager Carlos Gaztau00f1aga Who made our stay especially agreeable. We'll be back, for sure. |
