Try the simple life on Barbados at the Rest Haven Beach Cottages, right by the beach in Bathsheba. The iconic “golf-ball-on-a-tee” rocks are just yards away. Day visitors may come across from the west coast for a couple of hours around the middle of the day, but the rest of the time Bathsheba enjoys a truly authentic and non-touristy feel.

Rest Haven Beach Cottages offers one, two or three bedroom accommodation in the typical Bajan chattel house style. They may be simple, some may even say basic, but each cottage has a front terrace, a lawned garden and a sea view of the Atlantic Ocean. There may be no air-conditioning, but a fan and the trade winds will keep you comfortable.

Each cottage has a private bathroom with shower and a kitchen with stove, fridge, coffee-maker and kitchenware. Of course, not many people want to do their own cooking on holiday so it’s good to know there are restaurants on hand; the Round House and Atlantis come particularly recommended.

Owner Fritz is friendly and helpful, and cares for his guests. He’s not alone though as it seems like every local has time to stop for a chat, offer advice, talk fishing or surfing and maybe share a rum or two. Surfers will love the location as it’s just a five minute walk to Soup Bowl, one of the world’s top surfer destinations. Everyone else will just love the views, the coast, the sound of the waves breaking on the coral reef and most of all the laid-back calm of true West Indian life.

You could come by car, but the buses of Barbados are iconic and the bus stop is only 50 yards from Rest Haven Beach Cottages. Pay a couple of Barbados dollars and go native!
