Sunset Lane Guesthouse
, Flamboyant Avenue, Laborie, St Lucia.
If a big resort seems a bit too remote from the real life and culture of St Lucia, then perhaps this budget-friendly B&B in Laborie is just the place for you. Simple, yes, but so well done, Sunset Lane gives a great view of the little Caribbean village of Laborie and the stunning sunset that gives it its name.
Set right on the water’s edge above a tiny, stony beach, the guesthouse has uninterrupted views of the sea and the St Lucia shore, and the beaches at Laborie and Rudy John Beach Park are only about a ten minute walk away.
Frances will prepare a homemade breakfast upon request (for a modest charge) or guests have full use of the kitchen to prepare their own. Just pick up your favourites from the local shops in Laborie and do it your way. Fresh fruit and sea-fresh fish are the staples here and lunch and dinner is available in various little restaurants in the village, with Big Bamboo and Mama Rose coming especially recommended.
The guest rooms are simple but immaculately clean. Each one has a queen bed (or two) and an en-suite bathroom with shower. There’s a flatscreen television too, but who would want to watch TV when the sun is dipping into the ocean just outside?
Sunset Lane has typically Caribbean inside/outside style, so guests can readily stroll through from indoors to the terrace or verandah whenever the view beckons. Every month a festival called 'Festen Labowi' is held in Laborie, where the people of the village promote cultural activities whilst enjoying food and drinks.
