Les Hortensias du Lac
, 1578 Avenue du Tour du Lac, Hossegor.
Les Hortensias du Lac have long been a feature of the seaside resort of Hossegor, spread lazily among the pine trees on the western shore of the lagoon. It is just 200m through the trees and across the dunes from the long sandy beaches of the Atlantic Ocean.
Following recent major renovation and extension, Les Hortensias now blends fresh modernity with some art deco style and the surfing culture of the coast. It now features 25 rooms and suites, a huge infinity swimming pool, a generous terrace and bar and a restaurant overlooking the lake.
Given the location it’s hardly a surprise that seafood features heavily in the cuisine of the restaurant. Chef Philippe Moreno lays great store on local sourcing, a respect for the seasons and sustainability. His dining room has a great glass wall facing out across the terrace to the lagoon.
The hotel has a heated outdoor swimming pool overlooking the lake and a fitness room equipped with Water-Rower equipment. The new spa has been designed as a natural extension of the pool landscape. Te extensive facilities within the spa include dry massage rooms, wet massage room, cold bath, whirlpool bath, outdoor Nordic bath, a sauna, massage, rest room and tea shop, all within a restful decor of pale wood and stone.
There’s a touch of New England in the decor of the rooms and suites, perfect for the lakeside, beachside, ocean-side location. Many of the rooms face onto the lagoon and most have large balconies or terraces.
While the beach faces due west, where surfers can enjoy the Atlantic rollers, the Hossegor lake is a sheltered lagoon providing an altogether more tranquil way to enjoy the water. For those staying entirely on dry land, the hotel has bicycles and electric bikes for the use of guests.
