In the most beautiful part of Provence, Domaine des Carmes is a former Carmelite Priory that is now a unique and relaxing chambres d’hôtes (guest house). Located in three hectares of verdant parkland and gardens with a swimming pool, spa and numerous terraces, Les Carmes is ideal to take a break from the hectic pace of life. It lies just a short distance from L’Isle Sur La Sorgue, and about 17 miles from Avignon.

The suites are massive, with a charming Provencal rustic style of decoration. The two suites in the tower are the biggest of all with views of the park. Meanwhile the Terrace Suites have separate sitting rooms and are no less luxurious. All the suites have luxury bathrooms with either a bath and shower, or a walk-in Italian shower, king-size beds and reversible air-conditioning. After the copious space of the suites, the double room is merely large (30m²) with similar luxuries and a view of the orchard. Finally there is ther apartment which offer maximum privacy, all the usual luxuries and a fully-equipped kitchen.

The spa offers jacuzzi, hammam, sauna and numerous styles of massage. The outdoor fitness room is equipped for a thorough work-out.

L’Isle Sur La Sorgue is famous for it’s Sunday Market where you can find antiques, flowers, clothes and local farm produce. There are beautiful walks all around Le Thor, as well as a charming church and a medieval castle. And don’t miss the Caves of Le Thouzon! Just a 15 minute drive away is Gordes, perched on a rocky promontory and judged one of the most beautiful villages in France. Avignon needs no introduction of course, and if you’re a wine-lover, neither does Chateauneuf du Pape. The village overlooks 3000 hectares of vineyards producing the grapes for this, the most celebrated of the Côtes du Rhône appellations.
