Numero Dix, Bearn B&B.
10 Avenue Saint Jacques, Saint Goin.
Numéro Dix, otherwise known simply as Bearn B&B, is a substantial village house that has been recently renovated to provide a relaxing bed and breakfast with views of the Pyrenees mountains. Owners Magda and Richard are gracious hosts who love to welcome in visitors to share their beautiful home.
Positioned on the edge of a blink-and-you-missed-it village, there are fields and woods all around, the mountains of the Pyrenees on the horizon and the city of Pau not far away. In the large garden is a swimming pool complete with pool house which is an ideal spot to enjoy a relaxing drink and watch a spectacular sunset.
The sitting room shows off the heritage of the house to perfection, with a marble fireplace, deep comfy chairs and elegant furnishings. Corkscrew and glasses are at hand for something soothing or refreshing as you flick through the guide books provided. The dining room is equally grand; the place not just for breakfast but also offering the possibility of a four course dinner complete with wine. Alternatively there are plenty of nearby restaurants in the Béarn region, where duck and beef dishes are the local speciality.
The three guest bedrooms are so perfectly and prettily decorated. They have king-size beds (twin is an option in one of them), en-suite bathrooms with complimentary toiletries and magnificent views.
Nestled just below the mountains, walking, cycling, climbing and skiing are all a given. More unusual activities come in the form of the highest railway in Europe, the vertigo-inducing Holzarte bridge, and the Pic du Midi observatory which requires not one but two cablecar rides to get there. Throw in golf courses, the Pau Grand Prix, the passage of the Tour de France and the famous food and wine of the region and there really is something for everyone.
