In the stylish district of Saint Germain des Près, Hôtel Recamier is found nestling among the trees on the sleepy Place Saint Suplice. Quite a small hotel for a capital city with just twenty-nine guest rooms, it reopened fairly recently after a thorough renovation and facelift.

It is the renowned interior designer Jean Louis Deniot who was responsible for the revamp, and the hotel has ended up with a totally individual design in each room. He has also gone for one theme per floor. Working within the space of the Parisian Left Bank (La Rive Gauche) to the south of the River Seine, there is a homely intimacy about the house and he has done a fantastic job in creating somewhere comfortable and classically elegant, all the while giving some lovely details that are neither brutally minimalist nor unduly exuberant.

Rooms have iPod docks for connecting to the LCD TV, beautiful fabrics on the canopy beds and chairs on which to kick back. There is a choice of rooms with bathtub or walk-in shower and view of the Place Saint Sulpice square. On any floor, the two rooms with this view can be put together to transform them into a suite. The bathrooms have Fragonard toiletries (a French perfumer) and Egyptian cotton towels and bathrobes, as well as hair-dryers.
