La Villa Celine.
27 Avenue de Narbonne, Saint-Laurent-de-la-Cabrerisse, Languedoc.
La Villa Celine is a 19th century gentleman’s residence that has recently be refurbished as a chambre d’hotes (B&B) in the middle of the small village of Saint Laurent de la Cabrerisse. The house takes its name from Madame Céline Anna Peron who upon marrying her new husband, asked him to replicate her existing Paris house in Languedoc-Roussillon.
Many original features of the house have been retained such as stained glass, plaster cornices and ceiling roses, parquet flooring, original large window frames, the wonderful tiled hallway, wood panelling and marble fireplaces.
The large hallway leads through to the guest lounge with television and a breakfast room complete with separate tables for each couple or family. All four guest bedrooms come complete with en-suite bathrooms. Each room is decorated differently, capturing the original grandeur of the house whilst benefitting from lots of space, easy-to-use showers and wifi internet.
The walled garden is large, providing ample room for the swimming pool. Mature trees also give part of the garden some welcome shade when the weather is hot. During the summer, breakfast can be served on the terrace that overlooks the garden and swimming pool. Parking is available front and rear of the house, and there is also secure storage for bicycles and motor-bikes.
The central location in Saint Laurent is perfect for experiencing French village life. The village is surrounded by vineyards and tours are available. History abounds in this region, with abbeys, castles and fortresses including the famous Abbaye de Lagrasse and Abbaye de Fontfroide. Within an hour drive, there are the cities of Carcasonne and Narbonne, the Pyrenees, the Mediterranean Sea, and many historic chateaux.
