Chatton Park House
, Chatton, Northumberland.
Chatton Park House is an award-winning luxury B&B on a Northumberland estate offering 5 star adults-only accommodation. There are four rooms in the main house and a separate private detached cottage in the grounds. Most important of all though are the owners, Michelle and Paul, whose enthusiasm and attention to detail seem to know no bounds.
The four acres of gardens are filled with immaculately tended lawns, flowers and trees, providing a wonderfully secluded space in which to unwind in peace and tranquility.
The drawing room fills one side of the house, providing big, squidgy leather chairs and sofas and two gorgeous marble fireplaces. Breakfast in the dining room is outstanding with crisp tablecloths, fresh fruit salad in individual serving glasses and a really good cooked breakfast prepared by Paul. If the Northumberland platter (ie full English with all the works) is not your thing, there's a tasty vegetarian version, kippers, porridge and a selection of egg options. Add in the toasted crumpets, warm buttery croissants, cereals, fruit juices and more, and you have a meal to set you up for the day.
The Chillingham Room is named after the most haunted castle in England, just over one mile away. This beautiful room overlooks the back garden and beyond. With an en-suite shower room and either a lovely comfortable super king size bed or two single beds it comes with luxury toiletries, a flat-screen television, tea and coffee facilities, a fridge and a hairdryer. Next up is the Alnwick Room, named after the seat of the Percy family who originally built Chatton Park. This beautiful bedroom also has views over the back garden, with an en-suite shower room and a comfortable super king size bed. The Chatton Suite overlooks the front and side garden. With en-suite comprising of both a shower and a separate rolltop bath, it also has it's own separate lounge and a super king size bed. The Cheviot Hills are just five miles away, and the Cheviot Suite faces them across the front garden. It too has a separate lounge, en-suite shower room and a super king size bed.
For extra privacy and accommodation the Lodge features two bedrooms, a private lounge, a private garden and a full kitchen where you could prepare your own meals, or just pop across to the house for breakfast.
The North-East has a lot to thank Lord Armstrong for, as he was the man behind both Cragside and Bamburgh Castle, two must-do visits while you're staying at Chatton Park House. Also on the coast are the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, easily accessible at low tide) and the Farne Islands (a little less easy to get to but well worth the effort). In Alnwick there is the iconic castle home to the Duke of Northumberland and the Alnwick Garden, and an amazing bookshop in the old railway station.
