The Lamb Inn
, Hayfield Road, Chinley, Derbyshire.
First and foremost the Lamb Inn is an archetypal English country pub, serving good food and good beer. Having been founded as a coaching inn in the 1700s, it has now gone back to its roots and offers travellers three comfortable bedrooms with sleek, modern en-suite bathrooms.
The rooms are finished in subtle blues and greys, and feature chunky wooden sleigh beds and wardrobes to match. There's a flatscreen TV, a coffee machine, a hairdryer and nice toiletries but the wifi wich is available in he pub may not extend to the bedrooms.
Downstairs is everything an English pub should be with a low beamed ceiling, leaded windows and an eclectic mix of furniture. And a wide selection of wines and beers, of course. The food menu is classic hearty fare with a really good choice including steaks, fish, pies and vegetarian dishes. For something both traditional and filling, try the Chinley Whale, a huge piece of cod in a real ale batter.
The position of the Lamb Inn gives easy access to the northern half of the Peak District including icons like Kinder Scout, Mam Tor and Edale.
