The Lane Hotel.
4 Canaan Lane, Edinburgh.
Somehow the name tells you that Morningside will be a genteel and exclusive part of Edinburgh, and so it is. Here, just two miles from the city centre, The Lane Hotel is a stylish, boutique hotel sitting across two exquisite Victorian villas, both built in the 1800s. Many of the original features have been restored and the timeless building has been renovated and transformed to ensure guests have a most relaxing and enjoyable stay. The spacious rooms each have their own individual style, with beautifully decorated interiors and comprehensive facilities.
The bar and restaurant of the Lane Hotel is its very own pub just a few yards down the road. Named the Canny Man’s, it is one of Scotland’s most famous and unique public houses. There is an impressive gantry with over 250 Scottish whiskies and the food menu has something for everyone, from fresh seafood to the signature Scandinavian open sandwiches!
The restaurant seating in the Canny Man's is quirky, eclectic and deceivingly big. Dining tables can be found throughout the pub and there are some very sought after nooks and crannies. These include the famous Winston Churchill room that can sit five persons, The Alcove which is perfect for a romantic dinner, The Number 4 Room that offers the perfect private dining/viewing experience as well as the main dining room. There is a selection of menus using fresh, local produce perfect for all occasions. Fresh seafood is delivered daily from Eddie’s seafood market- supposedly the best in town! The smørrebrød sandwiches were introduced many years ago, tailor-made to suit customers needs, and freshly prepared each day. They’re ideal as a lunchtime treat.
The Lane’s luxurious bedrooms are stylish and spacious. Using calming, neutral colours, the rooms have a contemporary feel. They feature beautifully upholstered headboards with matching ottomans giving an elegant, luxurious finish. The Deluxe Rooms offer luxury and relaxation, taking full advantage of the Victorian’s penchant for space. The en-suite bathrooms are generously sized too with a walk-in shower and an array of amenities. To create real luxury all bathrooms have underfloor heating and individual temperature controls to manage from your own room. The most striking room is named simply the Luxury Room and has prime position in the historic Victorian house, offering your very own private terrace and small garden, perfect for sitting out on those beautiful summer evenings or after a long day sightseeing. The room includes fluffy cushions, a comfortable chair and ottoman.
The Morningside area has a lot to offer with an array of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. It takes only about 25 minutes to walk to the West End or 15 minutes by bus. From there all of Edinburgh is at your disposal: Edinburgh Castle, Prince’s Street, the Royal Mile, the National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh Vaults, Greyfriars Kirkyard, the university and so much more.
