Russell's.
The Green, Broadway, Worcestershire.
We first came across Russell's while enjoying a family lunch in Broadway. The food was exceptional modern British dishes featuring meat from the Cotswolds and fruit and vegetables from the Vale of Evesham. There was also a comprehensive wine-list featuring good quality new and old world wines, and as we all wanted something different, it was good to find that many of the wines were served by the glass.
It was while we were enjoying our lunch and looking out onto the centre of Broadway that we learnt about the seven guest rooms at Russell's. At the top of the range is the wooden beamed suite with it's super king-size bed, separate seating area and natural stone and marble bathroom with a jacuzzi bath and walk-in shower. All the other rooms have at least a king-size bed (or twin beds in one case) and lots of space. The windows either look out over Broadway and the Cotswold Hills or to the courtyard garden area. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms, luxury bedlinen, air-conditioning, heating, flatscreen television, wi-fi internet, a hot drinks tray and complimentary toiletries. Full English breakfast is included in the room rates.
It has been said that Broadway is the prettiest village in England, and it's hard to argue against that. Russell's is an integral part of the High Street, which is lined with immaculate lawns, horse-chestnut trees and typical honey-stone Cotswold houses and cottages. There is a huge selection of shops selling unique craft items, art and much more besides.
Broadway is a gateway to the Cotswolds with it's many beautiful villages, as well as larger towns like Cheltenham, Cirecester and Stratford-upon-Avon. It's a perfect base for walking or visiting the numerous attractions in the Cotswolds. Broadway Tower stands just outside the village, Snowshill Manor is in the next village and Blenheim Palace is just a little further away. For magnificent gardens, choose from Hidcote Manor (National Trust) or the privately-owned Sezincote.
