Tower House is a boutique B&B in a grand Victorian town house in York, just a 12 minute walk from York Minster and The Shambles. The odd shape of the house creates some oddly shaped rooms, and they are all the better for that, especially the rooms that include the corner tower or one of the bay windows.
The guest bedrooms are themed and furnished in unique styles. Our favourite is the Samurai Four Poster with its Japanese decor and sunken marble bath in the tower. Hardly less exotic are the three Chinese rooms: Tang has a super king-size bed and a walk-in power shower, Oriental has a king-size bed and a similar shower and Qing Hua has a choice of a super king bed or twin beds. The Oak Four Poster room has a very traditional king-size oak four poster bed and an original Victorian fireplace while the Mahogany Four Poster room has a Queen Anne bed of (you guessed it!) mahogany and a deep spa bath with chromotherapy lighting. Two more rooms have classic French themes, one with intricately carved whit Rococo furniture and a cast iron bath, and the other has gilded Versailles furniture, leather armchairs and a power shower. All rooms have radiator or underfloor heating and whisper quiet air-conditioning, all of which can be controlled from a single thermostat or even from the hotel's own web app.
Full English and continental breakfasts are served in the trendy new dining room. The full English includes Elvington bacon, Masham pork sausage, black pudding, portobello mushroom, hash browns, grilled tomato, baked beans and a choice of egg. Alternatively opt for Eggs Benedict, Eggs Florentine or a couple of unique recipes: The Tower or Eggs Diana. Then help yourself to yoghurt, cereals, muesli, fresh fruit and juices and a generous selection of teas and coffees.
