On a narrow leafy lane in Co Wexford, the Killiane Castle Country House is perfectly placed between mediaeval Wexford town and the ferry port at Rosslare. There's peaceful seclusion afforded by the luxury bed & breakfast accommodation in the 17th century house, pressed up against the imposing 15th century castle. This is also a working farm so guests are welcome to ramble on the farm walk, meet the animals and even see the cows being milked.

Passing through the beautifully refurbished hall, with an elegant sitting room to one side and the fine dining room to the other, guests arriving at Killiane Castle are offered tea or coffee and some of Kathleen’s homemade biscuits. The sitting room has an honesty bar and a open fire when the weather is cooler. Breakfast is served in the dining room, and evening meals are also served from April onwards, including meat from the farm and salads from the garden. Local produce doesn't get more local than this.

The individually designed en-suite rooms offer comfort and warmth with all the modern facilities. The 8 bedrooms occupy the first and second floors, reached by a typically wide 17th century staircase. All rooms have views of the gardens and green fields with cattle grazing. Some have views extending to the Wexford coastline. They are equipped with TVs, hairdryers, electric blankets, magazines and water.

For guests wanting a little more independence, there is the option of the self-catering courtyard apartments in the former stables. The apartments sleep either two or four people with en-suite bathrooms including power showers, hairdryers and plenty of storage space. The kitchen has a dishwasher, microwave and fridge freezer. The lounge area has comfortable couches with TV and electric coal effect fire, and there's a shared washing machine and a dryer in the courtyard. Breakfast is also available in the dining room if required.

There's plenty to do at Killiane Castle, without even leaving the estate. There's an 18 hole pitch and putt, and a 300 yard driving range for golfers with greater ambitions. There is also a tennis court and a croquet lawn. It's possible to climb the stairs of the 13th century castle tower to look out on the country and coastal views of Wexford, and of course there are plenty of walks along the nature trail and through the farm pastures.
