Hotel David
, Viale Michelangiolo, 1, Florence.
Hotel David has been in the Cecioni family ever since the 19th century mansion was turned into a hotel in 1950. Having passed through the hands of grandmother Tina and father Giovanni, it now falls to Gabriele and his team to welcome guests to this very special hotel in the centre of Florence. “Welcome” is really the watchword as Hotel David always ensures that their guests receive a little something extra.
Those little extras include some services that are pretty familiar like a good breakfast, free parking and free wi-fi. But then the word “extra” really kicks in to cover a free electric vehicle charging station, a free minibar containing beer, snacks, water and soft drinks, happy hour from 6.30 to 8.00 pm, 10 minutes of free international calls daily, an internet corner with iMacs and printers and Sky TV in every room.
There’s a classic feel to Hotel David, so appropriate to a city like Florence. Some of the antiques have been in the family for generations. Breakfast is a varied buffet that includes freshly-baked croissants, fruit juices and homemade cakes, but also bacon and eggs, gluten-free and vegan options.
Rooms range from the Basic Double to a Junior Suite with Terrace. The Basic is anything but basic though. Small, yes, but elegantly decorated and complete with an en-suite bathroom, air-conditioning, minibar, safe, Sky TV and a kettle for making tea or coffee. The other rooms range up in size, some being triples and some having a balcony.
Private cars are not a good way to travel in any city, so it’s good to find a bus stop right outside Hotel David. Leave your car in the hotel’s free car park and take the 5 minute bus ride to the historic centre of Florence.
