Hotel La Bitta.
Località Porto Frailis, Àrbatax.
Hotel La Bitta lies directly on Porto Frailis bay, not far away from Arbatax, on the eastern Sardinian coast. Staying at la Bitta simply means indulging in the relaxed and calm rhythm of a seaside holiday. Most rooms have an amazing sea view, and a small balcony or a terrace overlooking the bay. Each room represents a quiet, secluded space, tastefully adorned with hand-painted majolica.
Right in front of the hotel’s infinity pool, sun terrace and gardens you will find the enchanting Porto Frailis Beach; a private beach belonging to the hotel, with crystal-clear waters and fine sand. There are deckchairs, sun umbrellas and showers (with a charge only for the first row). The beach of Porto Frailis was awarded the prestigious Blue Flag in 2016.
The restaurant at La Bitta is just as well-renowned as the hotel itself. Starting with breakfast, there is an ample buffet which can be eaten indoors or out. For lunch, during the summer months, there’s the opportunity to enjoy a meal at the terrace bar, which offers anything from simple salads to more elaborate fish-based dishes, and the thousand different flavours of pantofole. Finally as the sun goes down, the glass-fronted dining room opens itself for dinner. There’s excellent cuisine, fresh fish and genuine local produce.
The guest rooms exude understated luxury. There are garden view rooms with space to spare, furniture by local artisans and a balcony for enjoying the garden. The sea view rooms are bigger and offer the best of views. Again they have a small balcony with outdoor furniture. At the top of the tree, the Deluxe Sea View Room has a large terrace with views over Porto Frailis Bay and a private two seater jacuzzi. Best of all, the Romantica Sea View Room is a huge exclusive room on the top floor, with amazing sea views from the terrace and a private mini-pool with swimjet and a jacuzzi.
Ogliastra modestly labels itself the most beautiful province of Italy, and who are we to disagree? The water taxi can whisk you off from the hotel to some beautiful secluded sandy beaches, or jump in your car and find your own way to the beaches that line the Gulf of Orosei, tucked between high cliffs. If you head inland, the sights are no less beautiful, with the Golgo Plateau and the statuesque Tacchi d’Ogliastra.
