Hotel Moresco
, Sestiere Dorsoduro, 3499, Venice, Veneto.
Hotel Moresco is a canalside hotel providing a mix of old and new, just a five minute walk from the Piazzale Roma. The general flavour of the public rooms is a rich embodiment of the 19th century, with suggestions of the orient that hint at the Marco Polo era of Venetian exploration. Central to all this is The Studio, Hotel Moresco’s bar and lounge. Here you can relax, read, sip your favourite tipple in a sumptuous atmosphere, while reflecting on the curiosity that is Venice.
The enclosed garden provides a pleasant surprise in a city hotel, especially in a city like Venice. This is the spot for a leisurely breakfast in summer, or indeed a leisurely anything. There are tables, chairs and loungers on the terrace and a bar to keep you sustained.
The guest bedrooms are modern but not stark, with lots of Venetian flourishes, including things like parquet floors, Venetian terrazo or Venetian glass mosaic in the bathroom. Rooms overlook either the garden or a typical Venetian canal, the Rio Novo. Classic Rooms all have an American shower, while the Superior rooms add a bath (either/or) and some also have a balcony. Right at the top, literally and figuratively, is the Weaver’s Room junior suite; 40 square metres of comfort and space, elegantly furnished and topped by a network of roof beams.
The position of Hotel Moresco is ideal, being just a five minute walk from the bus and taxi drop-off point and the ferry stations. A direct walk would take you to the Rialto Bridge in about 10 or 15 minutes, though most people will go much more slowly in order to take in unique sights of Venice that pop up at every corner. It’s just a little further to St Mark’s Square and the Doge’s Palace.
