Villa Nicoletta.
Loc. Curichena, Porto Pozzo.
Villa Nicoletta is a recent conversion and renovation of an agricultural building that dates back to about 1800. The chunky stone walls and heavy wooden beams are at once both charmingly rustic and clean and fresh. The blend of old and new has been judged to perfection.
This small Bed and Breakfast lies at the end of a country lane, about a mile from Porto Pozzo. The property extends to about four hectares but the surrounding fields go on for miles. There is a big swimming pool surrounded by a wooden deck with plenty of sun loungers and a verandah for when a little shelter is needed from the sun.
Every morning owner Giovanni prepares a sweet and savoury breakfast buffet, served on the verandah. There’s bottled water, juices, fruit, home made pastries, croissants, ham, cheese, tomatoes, yogurts, butter, honey, marmalade, Nutella, coffee and great coffee. Everything is fresh, homemade and prepared with love.
There are three guest rooms, tastefully furnished in a Sardinian country style. The two larger rooms have their own terrace, the Junior Suite being particularly large and commodious. Each room has a minibar, safe, television, wifi and air-conditioning. The en-suite bathrooms are equally stylish and have walk-in showers.
The village of Porto Pozzo stands at the head of a deep inlet from the sea. It offers many shops and restaurants and there is a charming marina where boats can be rented for a trip over to the famous islands of the marine park of La Maddalena. There is a very secluded beach at the end of the inlet which will require a bit of walking to get to (but well worth it), or a short drive will take you to the beaches at Porto Liscia, Barrabisa and La Licciola.
