Hotel Alahuar
, El Tossal, Benimaurell, Benimaurell, (Alicante).
The Hotel Alahuar sits 600m above sea-level just outside the village of Benimaurell where it looks down on the whole valley below. Surrounded by magnificent mountain scenery, this is a "shangri-la" location that offers the visitor comfortable and homely accommodation as a base for enjoying the splendid terrain all around. For those with a taste for history, it's interesting to know that the head of the valley here was the last bastion of the remaining descendants of the Moors in Spain when they were expelled in 1609. Legend has it that rather than be captured by the Spanish forces, the "Moriscos" threw themselves off the precipice of the Cavall Vert.
On the ground floor of the main hotel are reception, bar/cafeteria, restaurant, bodega, lounge and terraces with impressive views over the valley and to the sea. On the first floor above, there are eight twin-bedded rooms each with an attractive ceiling of small arches and own style of bathroom.
Just across the way are 12 junior suites laid out in duplex style with an open stairway to the sitting area and balcony giving stunning views up into the mountains, down the valley and out to the sea beyond. Each suite boasts its own identity and personalised style of bathroom. Both rooms and suites offer satellite TV, air-conditioning, mini-bar and direct-dial telephone.
The privileged position of the Hotel Alahuar affords the possibility of numerous outdoor activities and adventure sports in the great outdoors. From excursions on mountain-bike, traversing gorges or simple walks on marked pathways to visiting caves with pre-historic paintings. The reception of the hotel has a list of recommended walks of varying length and difficulty that start right at the door. The permanently benign climate permits year-long activity.
Children are well catered for. However parents should be aware that certain dangers exist due to severe drops near the hotel and therefore small children cannot be left alone.

Reviews from Little Hotels Travellers:
We booked 2 nights, half board. Excellent value and the staff exceptional. Menu choices and quality fantastic, wine list very reasonably priced. We would certainly return for an out of season break, ideal place to rest and enjoy beautiful views and surroundings. 10 out of 10 for everything. Wifi the only small hiccup, although available it is weak in the accommodation but good in the hotel building, when you are a business owner and need regular internet access, it was a little frustrating but did not interfere with the enjoyment of the trip in any way. |
We have just spent a wonderful 5 days there and, since our last visit in 2010, the whole place has been redecorated and refurbished to its previous high standard. The food, the accommodation, the attentive staff, the beautiful surrounding countryside - everything about this place adds to the pleasure of spending time there. Ten years ago I described this hotel as a jewel in your crown, my opinion has not changed. For those who are searching for unspoilt Spain with superb local food in stunning surroundings, this hotel has to be experienced. Many thanks to you for finding it for us. |
Hotel Alahuar was overall very good and excellant value for money with the golden age discount. The location was superb. The only downside was that after a days walking we would have prefered to eat before 8-00. |
Hotel was wonderful so peaceful just what we needed. Food was good standard but vegetables with main course just too sweet for our taste. Junior suites fabulous. Thank you. |
Hotel Alahuar was a lovely hotel in a stunning position and we were very happy with our stay. I shall certainly be looking at Little Hotels in the future. |
Hotel Alahuar absolutely fantastic! Wonderful food and scenery, great room - only one minor niggle, lots of wasps round the pool - not in itself a problem but all the dead ones in the pool should really be cleared out more regularly than they were. |
My group enjoyed their stay very much in the Hotel Alahuar. I gather the hotel was excellent, and we would certainly use the hotel - and your services -again. |
We fully recommend hotel Alahuar in Benimaurell to anyone who loves walking, views from the mountain peaks were stunning. We cannot fault the hotel facilities or staff and will certainly return. |
We've just returned from a lovely week relaxing in Valencia. Indifferent weather but splendid accomodation and beautiful food and company, thanks to your website. Our final 5 nights were spent on another return visit to what we consider to be the jewel in the crown of Vallencian accomodation The Hotel Alahuar, Benimaurel. Their studios with mezanine and balcony's with indescribably beautiful views, all set in what must be the most peaceful, relaxing position anywhere are perfect for chilling out and unwinding. The restaurant serving some of the best local dishes we have experienced (be prepared for large servings of superb quality food) served by lovely staff. All this and the most stunning scenery surrounding you. The whole area begs to be explored on foot or by car, plus a generous helping of local village cantinas to provide tapas, cervesas, vino, people watching and good company when required. Add this one to the 100 things to do........... Once again thank you for bringing these unique venues to our attention via your website, and, dealing with the bookings and car hire so efficiently. |
Check room rates, check availability and make your booking. It's so easy!

We Say
This is an astonishing base for walkers and cyclists. My abiding memory is of a walk on the mountain above Benimaurell and the wonderful scent of almonds (and normally I have a terrible sense of smell!). On the other hand, we met a family who were just spending a peaceful fortnight taking the sun and lounging by the pool. The choice is yours.
A Word from the Owner
"In 1609 the Vall de Laguar was the last stronghold of the Moors in their fight against the Christian reconquest. Today Alahuar provides a unique balcony for the visual conquest of the whole area and peace reigns supreme."
