Amanhavis is a small, unusual yet elegant hotel located in the little town of Benahavís just 5 km from the water's edge on the Costa Del Sol. Built in a typically Moorish style, the hotel appears like a delightful jumble of boxes piled together around the garden, terrace and swimming pool. It combines the charm of a building that has evolved rather than been designed, with all the luxuries the modern traveller has come to expect.
The nine rooms represent a potted history of southern Spain, delighting in such names as The Sultan Boabdil's Chamber and The Horse Thief's Hideout. Amanhavis takes the theme of its rooms a step further than most, so that the Astronomer's Observatory, for instance, comes complete with telescope and an observation window in the ceiling. The Philosopher's Study has its own secret escape tunnel. However they never forget that the room is first and foremost a guest's little home while on holiday.
The award-winning restaurant at Amanhavis is very special. The main dining room is comfortable and homely, though in summer most people prefer to sit out on the terrace for their meals. There is a good choice on the menu, and it changes daily.
The Costa Del Sol is the ultimate holiday location, offering something for everyone. Amanhavis is within easy reach of the coast where you can enjoy lively beaches and bars around Marbella, the sophisticated marina of Puerto Banus, plus diving, snorkelling, sailing, para-gliding and so on. Many people visit for the golf, and there are many prestigious courses within very easy range.
A little further inland you can walk in the quiet hills that surround Benahavís, or go on horseback or bike. Or travel a little further and visit the White Villages of Andalucia and the National Parks such as Grazalema.
Standard Double Room
Monk's Sanctuary.
The large double bed in this room and the spiritual decoration of statues hidden in niches, pews, angels, will grant you a quiet and serene atmosphere.
Philosopher's Study.
Enhance your thoughts by reading the many works of wisdom, placed within the bookshelves and in the twin beds' headboard.
Superior Double Room
Christopher Columbus' Berth.
From the porthole of your room admire the Andalusian sierra and dream in a berth that is furnished with a double bed and features maps, trunks, conquistador helmets and other seafarers' kit required to cross the oceans.
Spice Trader's Caravan.
Features a wealth of exotic aromatic treasures you can discover in a hiding place dug into the earth. This room is furnished with a double bed and oriental adornments, and the rich spicy vibrant colours give an atmosphere of warmth and comfort.
Horse Thief's Hideout.
In this Hideout, one can find, hidden by a rusty trap door, the treasure chests amassed during years of thievery along the coastline. Jewellery and gold coins, personal souvenirs... an adventure by itself. In the headboard of the twin beds you can read the names of the horses this lad had stolen : Luna, Rayo, Tornado, Lucero etc.
Alchemist's Laboratory.
In the mysterious and magical atmosphere of this room, we find the old Alchemist experimenting on formulas and potions between bottles and pipettes. The twin beds are incrusted with semi-precious stones and the décor is the compilation of the elderly expert's wisdom.
Deluxe Double Room
Sultan Boabdil's Chamber.
The Sultan Boabdil was the last Sultan of Granada. This room has an Arabic atmosphere decorated according to the Moorish style. A silky canopy surmounts the twin beds, with walls of colourful Arabic tiles all complementing the handmade Moroccan furniture. You can enjoy the romantic Arabic tower, which has a lovely view of the hotel terrace and swimming pool.
Astronomer's Observatory.
If you search for the explanation of your dreams and your future, come to the Astronomer's Observatory. Laying in the double bed, watch the stars through the wide glass canopy roof. With the help of the telescope you can have an even more accurate vision of what lies within the skies. Will you be able to decipher the stars message?
Catholic King's Royal Quarters.
The atmosphere of this room reflects the emblem of the reign of Ferdinand and Isabella; its best quality tapestries, its wide double bed with canopy, its crowns and portraits sculpted in the furniture, will make you feel like real Kings. This spacious room features many windows, which allows you to admire either the sierra, the remaining stone structure of the Moorish castle of Benahavís or the romantic setting of the hotel terrace.

Reviews from Little Hotels Travellers:
We have just spent a delightful week at Amanhavis and did not want to leave. The hotel is a sheer delight enhanced by the wonderful team working there. A big thank you to all who made us so welcome and could not do enough for us. The restaurant is an absolute MUST. Superb food and wines and a, not to miss, frozen mug of cava champagne with passion fruit essence! As far as we are concerned this is a 10+++ hotel. |
We had only booked at this hotel for one night but then wished we could have stayed longer. It is a most charming place, beautifully built around a courtyard and pool, in the old Moorish style, complete with a large palm tree. A touch of Arabian Nights. Also a very warm welcome from the owner. We heard the restaurant is very good but regrettably our stay coincided with the one night of the week it was closed. At least there was a large choice of restaurants within a few minutes walk. This is somewhere we would be very happy to return to. |
Excellent Holiday!
The accommodation was good and the food in Benahavis was consistently of a very high standard.
To be in a small hotel meant a sense of homeliness and being cared for. |

We Say
Enchanting hotel with bags of character. Inside, the decoration is a riot of everything moorish, and great fun besides. Highly recommended for a special stay in the Marbella area.
