The Hotel Real Casona de Las Amas has been in the same family since it was built in the late 17th century. Today the magnificent stone manor house with it's crisply carved heraldic arms above the door provides a luxury hotel of sixteen bedrooms from which guests may enjoy the villages, the scenery and the culture of the Rioja region.
Inside, the lobby, lounge and library have all been perfectly decorated with all manner of antiques blending seamlessly with the heavy wooden structures and the stone and lime plaster of the walls. The door into the library is 15th century. Modernity is not forgotten though as a large television rests inconspicuously in a corner and the wifi is of course invisible yet emminently useful.
There is lots of terrace space outside, with a garden planted with fragrant herbs, an area for sunbathing and a swimming pool with a cascade and a swimjet. At night the atmospheric lighting around the gazebo imbues a wonderful sense of luxury and tranquillity into this area. Without a doubt, a perfect place to sit out, by day or in the balmy evenings of a Rioja summer.
Every guest room is different, taking fullest advantage of the original features and combining them with elegant contemprary materials. Depending on the choice of room, you will find large sitting areas, lavishly hung four-posters, beautiful bathrooms with hydro-massage baths and invigorating showers.
For an ultimate relaxation, the spa has a variety of facilities to soothe overworked bodies, alleviate stress and de-clutter the mind.

Reviews
Reviews from Little Hotels Travellers:
We found the hotel Real Casona de Las Amas ok, but not quite so good as the pictures promised. The rooms were small (the superior ones) and tiny (the regular ones) and the service very familiar, but not quite so professional. The first day we had to leave the hotel at 7,30 and we couldn't get any breakfast, because the lady in the kitchen starts at 8,30. On the second day we asked for some fruit for breakfast and they didnt have any (!). One of my clients asked to be woken up twice in the morning and they said no... My general impression was that it is a nice country house but very overpriced. |
We were not over impressed with Real Casona.
Very dark and OTT, meal was very ordinary for the price.
Not very helpful staff. |

We Say
It really does feel a privilege to be able to share Enrique's ancestral house for a few days. He is to be congratulated on turning a wonderful house into a wonderful hotel.
