La Posada de Amonaria is a nineteenth century farmhouse in Malpartida de Plasencia which has been carefully restored with original methods and materials to create a delightful little hotel with a lovely country character. The walls are limewashed slate, the roof beams are authentic Spanish chestnut and there are floors of slate and clay or ceramic tiles.
The layout too is original, with each room subtly reworked for its new purpose: the old entrance patio is now the reception, the farmhouse kitchen complete with massive stone fireplace is now the dining room, and the lounge with its high sloping ceiling has been created from the old grainstores. Down in the bodega, guests can enjoy wines and tapas surrounded by the ancient paraphernalia of the wine-making process: 150 year-old earthenware jugs, the vat where the grapes were manually trodden, and a wine-press. The old solana (a sunny terrace where the logs were dried for winter) has now become a light and airy dance studio.
Outside, there is a terrace garden where guests can choose to take the sun, or shade themselves under the huge palm tree.
The guest bedrooms occupy the original bedrooms and stores, once again carefully retaining all of the character. As a result, some of the rooms have little sitting areas and of course they all have bathrooms en-suite. There is also a suite with a separate lounge. All of the fittings right down to the light switches have been chosen to complement the cosy country character of the original house. The decorations leave much of the structure exposed, ably demonstrating the richness of the texture of the materials that went into the construction. The mixture of architectural features, traditional country furniture and a few modern pieces is ideally chosen to overwhelm you with the rural ambience.

Had a great time. Rooms and whole house were spotlessly clean, it was warm and cosy and the host was the most friendly and accommodating man ever. Breakfast was simple but plentiful and I imagine in the summer the terrace is very pleasant. Would definitely stay here again. |
It would be difficult to find a better place to spend a few days in the north of Extremadura. It's a great jumping-off point for various excursions and nature parks. Large, comfortable, clean, fresh, very well furnished, with great details. The price is very reasonable too. |
My partner and I have just spent a weekend here and we were bowled over by the place. Magnificent decoration, great care in every details, and clean. A lovely welcome from Juan. |
