Originally designed as a country house in the 16th century, Cal Mestre is the second oldest building in the picturesque hamlet of Les Gunyoles, in the province of Barcelona. Visitors will delight in the spectacular views looking over a valley of vineyards from which the renowned Penedès wine is produced. Beyond that, there are the unique, rugged peaks of Montserrat. Here there are so many different aspects for you to enjoy: the peace and quiet of the beautiful Catalan countryside, culture, the fascinating city of Barcelona with its outstanding architecture and boulevards, the old Roman city of Tarragona, sports activities, beaches and all the gastronomic delights of Mediterranean cuisine.
The apartment at Cal Mestre has a choice of one or two bedrooms. It has its own simple elegance and a stunning view. Comfortable beds ensure a good night's rest and all rooms are equipped with spacious, modern bathrooms. There is room to swim, sunbathe, enjoy the view, read, chat, or simply relax on a variety of terraces or in the gazebo. The saunas (one Finnish cabin and one infra-red) in the old bodega are available to guests at a nominal charge.
This is an ideal location to visit interesting places and yet to return at night to sleep in the tranquility of a peaceful village. To appreciate the quiet atmosphere even more Marian occasionally organises yoga sessions and special yoga weekends. Martin and Marian created Cal Mestre as their own little dream-come-true, to fashion a lovely comfortable house that they could share with you.
Barcelona is one of the best city breaks in the world, but it is a bit noisy. From Cal Mestre, the centre of Barcelona is within easy reach but you can return to a warm, friendly and restful hotel each evening. The best of both worlds! The area around Cal Mestre offers a lot more. The beach is within easy reach, the Penedes and Garraf areas are great for hiking with many beatiful wineries and gastronomic pleasures to discover.

Reviews from Little Hotels Travellers:
This is a great location to really chill out and get away from it all as it is in a small hamlet with no bars & only 2 restaurants (1 only opens at weekends and the other does a great Menu del Dia lunch but only opens evenings at the weekends) The larger village at the bottom of the hill has bars and restaurants but only found 1 that opened evenings. However, Marian and Martin were superb hosts and nothing was too much trouble such as snacks in the evening etc. Drinks available from the honesty bar and terraces to sit out and enjoy the spectacular views of the vineyards and Monserrat mountains. Dining with Marian and Martin and other guests also an option a couple of nights a week. Great location especially if you like wine & cava - around 200 wineries to go for a tasting tour! Close to Barcelona by train. Definitely recommend.

The hotel was great - our second with Little Hotels - will definitely book through you again.
We have just returned from a wonderful break at Cal Mestre. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean with wonderful views of the vineyards. Nothing was too much trouble for Marian and Martin who made us very welcome into their home. The cuisine was excellent and the host's accommodated our 8 year old's limited palate. Thank you for a memorable few days.
What a perfect place to spend our last two days in Spain! Our room was ideal, comfortable and so very well maintained. Marian and Martin were so very accommodating. They welcomed us and made us feel at home. As an additional bonus, we were able to arrange having dinner with our host and hostess and other guests. Martin is a very good chef and accommodated our special dietary needs. The evenings spent at Cal Mestre were an opportunity to get to know the innkeepers and share experiences with other guests. We would highly recommend Cal Mestre as a place to stay in a lovely small Spanish village overlooking the vineyards of the Penedes region.
After my stay in Cal Mestre I wanted to say how truly welcoming Marian and Martin are. Nothing is too much trouble for them. I felt as though I was at home. I could stay in and watch TV or go out. Home from home!

Thank you for the warm 'accueil'. It was wonderful to be here. Thank you for sharing your dream with people.
We were the first American guests at this lovely, newly renovated B&B. Martin and Marian were extraordinarily welcoming....in multiple languages! They've maintained the historic ambience of this property but updated it beautifully - glorious bathrooms, contemporary bedrooms, beautiful pool, patio, porches. They were welcoming, well-informed, and warm hosts. My son, his girlfriend, and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
Warm service, lovely people, and sitting down to dinner with the owners is a charming idea.
