An hour from Santander and Bilbao, half an hour from the nearest coastline, but in a peaceful rural environment of its own, La Casa del Puente (meaning Bridge House) was created for those who have a bit of peace in mind: mountain walks, water trickling along the nearby River Gándara, caves (with ancient paintings) just a ten minute trip away, and a newly refurbished grand house in which to rest and enjoy a wonderful welcome.
With the hotel situated in the small town of Regules in the Sota Valley, the area itself is excellent for both relaxation and activities. Good places to fish, walk, hike, play golf and cycle are all found within a half-hour drive of La Casa del Puente. The hotel is also at the foot of the Collados del Asón National Park. As well as the generally pleasant temperatures and quality eating, this being Green Spain there is plenty of lush scenery, which all adds up to a rounded visit to that allows you to appreciate many of the country's qualities.
The hotel opened in 2011 with a wealth of accommodation options, be it the double rooms, the triple or the selection of suites and apartments that are suitable for parties ranging up to 6 people. There is also a seven-bedroom chalet to rent just 5km from the coastal town of Laredo, called Villa de Liendo.
Meanwhile, back at the Casa del Puente, if all that beautiful scenery wasn't enough relaxation, how about a spa? After a good day's hiking or indeed not doing much at all, guests can rest their weary or perfectly unweary legs in the jacuzzi or sauna. The terrace is also equipped with a barbecue for guests' use.
Some of the rooms and suites have a hydromassage bath and most enjoy privileged views of the delightful scenery. Good use has been made of the building's original features, with a lot of stone walling and wooden beams. With the recent renovation, nothing ever feels too old and in need of updating. Guests can opt for one of the apartments, which have kitchens and living rooms (two with a dining room).
As for Villa de Liendo, it's a perfect spot for larger groups seeking somewhere nearer the beach and the adventurous independence that comes from self-catering.
Great facilities and lots of space, all at a remarkably modest price.

Reviews from Little Hotels Travellers:
"We were only there for a short period but the hotel was great - lovely rooms, very well presented. All really enjoyed dinner - really simple menu, 3 courses with 3 choices per course and fantastic value at 15 euro per head. Wine was also great value at 6 euro a bottle.
Great location - I am a keen cyclist and would love to go back to that area sometime in the future for cycling holiday.
Finally, the owners were very nice and welcoming."
"La Casa del Puente - excellent. Very friendly. Very large room with sitting area. Food was delicious especially the tapas. Felt very Spanish and ordering the food was quite an adventure!
Service from Little Hotels was also to be commended. We will definitely use you again. "
Here's What Some People Have Written On Other Review Sites or in the Guestbook:
"We loved the house in all its aspects. The location is 20 minutes from the coast, Laredo, among the mountains, which are full of caves. The staff are lovely and very attentive with a refined and friendly way about them. The food, cafe/ restaurant are good quality. The only negative - that we only stayed a night. We must come back again and again!"
"Lovely rooms and apartments, decorated with great detail. Very clean, everything is new and looks great. Excellent service, very helpful and friendly. The location is simply amazing, in a beautiful valley surrounded by pure nature, but not far from the beach and cities (Santander and Bilbao). Would love to stay there again!" Thomas, London
