Casona de la Paca is a beautiful colonial-style house built in 1887, surrounded by gardens filled with magnolias and mature trees. The hotel is full of small details, using warm colours and soft prints to emphasise it's neo-classical roots. Just one kilometre from the village and the little harbour at Cudillero, Casona de la Paca is a wonderful place to stay while exploring the Asturias coast.
Of course the garden is a great place to sit out, not just to enjoy the sunshine, but also the fresh sea air which wafts in from the nearby coast.
Indoors, the lounge is very traditional and has a small library and reading corner. The jewel in the crown though is the summer salon, a bright, light room with a fully glazed wall facing out to the flowers and trees of the garden. There is also a breakfast room.
The main choice of guest rooms are the double rooms, with or without their own sitting room. The rooms reflect the restful colonial style of the rest of the house and naturally they are fully equipped with a flat-screen television, wi-fi internet, central heating and a hair-dryer in the en-suite bathroom. For the next level up in luxury and space, there are also two suites with private balconies.
In an adjoining building are the Casona de la Paca apartments, with a choice of either studio apartments for a couple, or apartments with a fully separate bedroom, suitable for small families. The apartments have been recently totally remodelled, giving them a fresh, crisp, modern style. The renovations go beyond just style though, being a fine opportunity to employ the best eco-facilities, using geo-thermal power for both hot water and heating and LED bulbs for lighting. Guests staying in the apartments enjoy all the facilities of the hotel, their apartments include all the same facilities as the guestrooms in the main house, and they also have fully-equipped kitchens including a microwave and a coffee machine.
The Asturias coast is well-known for sandy beaches, rocky cliffs and pretty fishing villages. All this and more is right on the doorstep at Casona de la Paca. The village of Cudillero is just a ten minute walk away and bigger places like Gijón are within half an hour by car.
Meals
Great care and attention goes into the breakfasts at Casona de la Paca. There is a wide variety of homemade pastries typical of the area, such as various bizcochos, anise doughnuts, frixuelos, torrijas. Also more general Spanish breakfast dishes such as cold meats, Asturian cheeses, yogurt, bread with tomato and olive oil, and of course orange juice.
