Although the hotel is close to all the important attractions of Barcelona, it doesn’t feel like a city centre hotel due to its proximity to the waterfront. On one side is the city, but on the other there is the crystal-clear light of the Mediterranean. From the rooftop terrace and many of the rooms there are magnificent panoramic views from Montjuich Park, down past the Christopher Columbus monument to the Olympic Marina.

All of the rooms are spacious and elegantly equipped to four star standards. The exterior rooms face out to sea or onto the Calle Mercé which was the original principal façade of the building. Other rooms face into the inner court, ideal for those who wish to be isolated from the sounds of the city. The Deluxe rooms and one of the Junior Suites have fabulous views over the harbour and marina. One floor is completely given over to non-smoking rooms, and there are rooms specially adapted for disabled guests.
A short walk up the Ramblas brings many of Barcelona’s best sights within easy range, and the excellent metro system makes the remainder readily accessible too.

Light and airy room of 25m2, with a balcony overlooking the Passeig Colom. Some rooms have a view of the harbour.

Meals
The elegant restaurant is a room with towering arches and high ceilings, yet surprisingly intimate. Alternatively, choose the restaurant terrace with spectacular views of the city and harbour. The cuisine is based on the Mediterranean principles of fresh ingredients and healthy preparation.
Generous buffet breakfasts are served in the restaurant, with a choice of cooked dishes too.

Once again not at all disappointed with Little Hotels. The Duquesa de Cardona is in a superb location and the staff all very helpful. Our room was certainly at least adequate though identical to many 4-star in all the world!
I would like to make a recommendation for a meal we had a short walk away - just beyond the General Post Office, in a small square called the Placa Olles, you could eat at the recommended Cal Pep, or if you get bored with waiting and you prefer to eat outdoors, you could do as we did and eat at the Cafe Catalana. As is often the case, there was itinerant entertainment of variable quality but food to really remember.
We've had many Mediterranean al fresco evening meals but here the gambas and calamares were melt-in-the-mouth truly exceptional! |
Just wanted to let you know that we had a wonderful time at the Hotel Duquesa du Cardona. The location is excellent, the roof terrace and plunge pool are a real bonus for a city hotel, and the reception staff were always friendly and cheerful. The rooms were nice and the bathrooms were breath-takingly beautiful.

Yes, Duquesa de Cardona is bigger than our norm, but it meets the most essential criteria for inclusion in Little Hotels of Spain: it's a hotel that we would want to stay in. Being right on the coast, there can be no urban sprawl on the seaward side, so you can stay in the Duquesa de Cardona in the very heart of Barcelona, yet enjoy the fresh Mediterranean air and light that comes from the sea. The Port Vell area has been turned from the old commercial port into a fresh, modern, sophisticated, fashionable waterside full of bars, restaurants, gardens and marinas. If you only ever do one city break in your lifetime, this should be it.
