Fowlers Hotel
, c/ den Rito, 12, Cala d'Or.
Fowlers Hotel in the old part of Cala d'Or, was built in 1959. It's a hotel that takes you back to a time when foreign places were exotic and foreign travel was for the exclusive few. Every corner is filled with fascinating objects, busts, oil paintings and porcelain etc, a melange of classical styles that blend and contrast against a background of flowers and plants.
It is the location that really sets Fowlers apart, set in a hidden hamlet of cottages and terraced houses, and standing in a dominating position high above the marina, with spectacular views from the terraces.
The beach of Cala d'Or is reached by a short walk through a strangely deserted square, with a fig tree in the centre and a beautiful whitewashed church, which has been the inspiration for many local and visiting artists. This is how Mallorca used to be and it is the way that some corners will always remain. Stroll down the lane at the back of the hotel and you will find the boat houses, probably the oldest buildings in Cala d'Or. The town centre and the wonderful marina are also a short walk away, where there are many fine restaurants and shops.
Fowlers is traditional and comfortable. The lively bar boasts a grand piano and local and visiting pianists frequently arrive to entertain. There is a small splash pool on the terrace. Meanwhile Cala d'Or itself is utterly delightful: what could be better than sipping an aperitif by the harbourside watching the grand yachts slipping in and out?

Reviews from Little Hotels Travellers:
We really liked our stay at Fowlers. We can recommend it. Lovely breakfast served by Lisa. And nice bar served by Alexander. And Jennifer who maked us feel at home. Thank you. |
We stayed here near the end of October for 8 nights. It was wonderful. Really welcoming staff, lovely room, clean and comfortable with great views. Could not have been better. |
Had a very relaxing time. Lovely hotel with staff and owners very welcoming. Service very good. Hope to return again. |
Stayed here for 5 nights 1st June, everyone so friendly, spotlessly clean, wonderful breakfast, and lorry loads of information if you need it on restaurants, attractions etc. great location in Cala d'Or, we were very sorry to leave and continue our journey in Palma, we should have stayed there! |
Very efficient booking services -- quick to respond and most helpful. Description details of the Hotel were very true and met most expectations. Rooms were a little small but good facilities. The Fowlers Hotel was a hidden "Gem" --- charming in every way. A welcoming atmosphere and nothing too much trouble for any of the staff. Excellent location close to superb beach, yatching harbour and small town centre. Great choice of restaurants in short walking distance of the Hotel. Would recommend to others. |
We have just got back from a holiday at Fowlers Hotel Cala D'Or, generally a good hotel, shower was ridiculously small, and every morning we were woken up by the breakfast waitress dragging furniture around underneath our room, none of the staff including Colin Fowler who we paid our bills to enquired whether we had enjoyed our holiday which seemed strange, therefore we did not give any direct feedback. Mrs Fowler, Alexander and Lisa were friendly and had good local knowledge. Would not return, although it was obvious that many people were returning customers, would look at Small Hotels again for recommendations though. My advice would be for the owners to stay in the rooms, as they were not user friendly, kettle lead didnt reach, very dark where mirror had been placed, asked for twin beds but they were set up as a double so had to move beds which meant doors didnt open properly, they might then understand our criticisms a little better. |
We have just returned from an excellent week's break at this delightful little boutique hotel, in a quiet , shady residential street, but within yards of the famous Cala Longa marina, and (less than) five minutes comfortable walk from the centre of town and the lovely Cala D'or beach. The weather was good which always helps, and is important for Fowlers which although oozing charm, and with a super bar and small plunge pool offers little on a wet day other than the superb view of the marina activities from its terraces and balconies. For those who would enjoy this hotel though, that view and a good book is all you need. Apart from a delicious, fresh continental breakfast no food is served, but there is a great range and choice of restaurants to suit all pockets within that same five minute stroll. This is the fourth hotel we have booked through "littlehotels", and every one in its own distinctive fashion has been a gem. The company has been first class to deal with and extremely helpful. If this is a first visit to their site then book with confidence - what you see is what you get. |
We had one of our most rememberable stays at the Fowlers Hotel in Cala d'Or. Greate place, greate people and nice relaxing place. We have already recomended it to several friends, and for sure, we`ll be back. |
Fowlers Hotel is a jewel in the crown of Cala Dor. Situated above the yacht harbour it offers a gentle luxury and comfort rarely found in hotels these days. The proprietors and staff look after every guest superbly - nothing is too much trouble right down to organising a wonderful meal from a local restaurant famed for its paella - being somewhat disabled I could not make it to the restaurant so Alex; bless him, got the restaurant to me. I have stayed in hotels large and small all over the world, nothing comes close to Fowlers for a laid back charm, comfort and hospitality. |
We had a lovely holiday. The location of this hotel is just as described, an easy walk to the Beach, Marina and town. Great hospitality and kindness at Fowlers hotel. Nothing was too much trouble. Little Hotels helped us find just what we wanted and were most helpful throughout. |
Fowlers Hotel was great. They were very welcoming. Breakfast was fantastic as it says in the reviews on line. Alex's cocktails were even better !! The plunge pool was a welcome cool down in the afternoon and because there were only 5 other people in the hotel it was like having your own private terrace ! The hotel's situation is perfect too - off the beaten track but easy to get to the harbour, town centre and beach. I would recommend it and I would go again. |
This is to let you know that we had a lovely holiday staying at Fowlers Hotel where everything was as we had hoped. It is a truly unique hotel with very hospitable hosts which made our stay very enjoyable. |
Fowlers is a gem not to be missed ! We felt totally pampered and spoiled by Pat, Colin and Alex from the delicious breakfasts (including home made almond cake) to the cocktails on the terrace whilst listening to the grand piano being played in the background. The location was superb, near the marina, restaurants and glorious beach. Would recommend this hotel to any one looking for a romantic or family break and have taken home several brochures to pass on to friends and family. |

We Say
Colin Fowler calls his hotel a time warp, and certainly it takes one back to a time of sophistication and exclusivity. Cala Llonga is utterly beautiful, and Fowlers has a fine view over the whole cala.
A Word from the Owner
We would like to think that Fowlers is a time warp. Come and tell us if you agree.
