The mountains of Andalucia encompass a wonderland of extraordinary landscapes, and many of them can be seen from the windows of the Hotel La Fuente del Sol. In 2009 the hotel won an award as the best rural hotel in Malaga province, and it's easy to see why. It is at one with its surroundings; white walls, wooden ceilings, clay tile floors, a garden full of herbs and flowers. Around it there is the Guadalhorce valley, the huge rock outcrop of El Torcal, the amazingly historic town of Antequera and a lake that is home to thousands of flamingos.
There is plenty of space to relax at La Fuente del Sol, as guests choose from the stone-paved patio, the extensive lawns or the terrace by the pool. Wherever they choose, the views are always there. Even inside, making use of the wonderful spa facilities, the huge windows keep those views and the countryside always at hand.
There are 14 guest rooms ranging from the excellent standard doubles with their comfortable country character and up through the various suites which afford sumptuous materials, oodles of space and, here comes that word again, the greatest views. Depending on their position, some rooms have ground floor access to the surrounding terrace, and some have balconies, a small terrace or in the case of the Imperial Suite, a huge private terrace. All rooms are have rustic ceilings and wooden windows, telephone, digital TV with DVD, hairdryer, minibar, underfloor heating, wi-fi, safe box and a cosy quiet atmosphere.
150 million years in the making, El Torcal is a remarkable piece of natural sculpture, inviting visitors to partake of easy walks, extended hikes, rock-climbing, horse-riding or mountain-biking. The town of Antequera is a microcosm of every era of Spanish civilisation, from 5000 year-old Neolithic monuments, through the Iberians, the Roman period, the Moors, the Christian reconquest, right up to the elegant townhouses of recent centuries. And if anyone hankers for the Mediterranean sea that they can see in the distance, that's only a 60 minute drive away too.
For any visitors not familiar with night time far away from a town or city, the clear skies and lack of light pollution are a revelation. Just lie on your back and gaze up at the millions of stars. Pick out the constellations, planets and maybe even the odd man-made orbiting satellite. Amazing.
A Word from the Owner
"Get to know our hotel and enjoy some unforgettable moments in our gorgeous location."
Each room has been decorated in a different manner. Three of them have double beds and the rest have kingsize beds. The rooms on the first floor have high ceilings decorated with wooden beams and the rooms on the ground floor have private access to the outside of the hotel, giving more privacy to the guest.
The two Junior Suites are on the first floor. Granado has a small balcony facing onto the central patio, with views to the south. Retama has a large terrace with sunbeds and a table and chairs where you can enjoy an outdoor snack in privacy. It faces the mountains and the kitchen garden.
The suites are equipped with a spacious living room with chimney, king-size bed and a bathroom with both a shower and a hydromassage bath. Jara, is on the first floor and Palmito on the ground floor, both with the same views. They make the perfect room for families with children, since the additional bed can be placed in the living room.
The Imperial Suite has a sitting room with fireplace, a bedroom with king-size bed and a bathroom with both a shower and a sunken jacuzzi bath. The large 32m2 terrace has views towards the south and to the mountain.
A smaller room, ideal for a guest travelling on their own.
The Fuente del Sol restaurant is open each day for lunches and dinners. Chef Jesús Guerrero brings his own distinctive touch to mediterranean cuisine, while the restaurant itself is yet another part of the hotel benefitting from the impressive views.
