The spectacular coastline of the Bay of Biscay is the backdrop for the Hotel Gametxo, where there are views right along the coast and up the Mundaka estuary. This is a hotel for country-lovers, but also a handy base for visiting Bilbao (Guggenheim Museum, and more) and San Sebastian.
The hotel is housed in two buildings of modern construction reflecting the traditional architecture of the area. There is a breakfast room, and a lounge which divides into one area for board games, television and use of a computer, and a quiet area for reading or simply gazing out of the window at the view.
Another important part of Hotel Gametxo is the Spa and Relaxation Centre. This uniquely designed space includes a sauna, jacuzzi, Turkish bath experience showers and a variety of massages.
There are standard guest rooms, larger Superior rooms (some with a hydromassage bath) and Apartments. They all have a simple modern decor in keeping with the location.
Outside, the views are spectacular, especially looking down over the Mundaka estuary to the village of Mundaka. The garden gives ample opportunity for sitting out and enjoying the view. This is a good place for visiting the lovely sandy beaches of the Basque coast, exploring the wetlands of the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve or walking in the Oma Forest.

Reviews
Reviews from Little Hotels Travellers:
We loved staying at this little hotel! Everything was clean and comfortable. There was so much to see in the Bilbao area and I only wish we had had more time just to explore around the immediate area. It's in the middle of a National Park! I would definitely want to come back here! The people on staff were very friendly and helpful. I forgot a small box of earrings and Benat wrote to tell me. He will send them to me by mail!
Thank you for helping to arrange it so that we could be with our friends under one roof!
I would definitely consider booking with you again! |
Here's What Some People Have Written On Other Review Sites or in the Guestbook:
Delightful hotel, set on a hill, with incredible views. Breakfast for just 7 euros is great. The only downside is having to take the car to go out to dinner, but everything else is just marvellous so we will definitely be back. |
The rooms are very nice, and the staff are top class. You can have lovely walks in the hills or on the beaches. Laida and Laga are very close. |
I have nothing but good to say about this place. We have spent some fantasticdays in one of the apartments with a sea view (impressive). The position, the sense of peace and the comfort make it worth every penny. |

We Say
Look out on the spectacular coastline from the hotel window or terrace. But it gets even better when you venture out to visit the villages, beaches, cliffs, woods and mountains.
A Word from the Owner
Our hotel mixes pure nature with the sea. This area, part of the Basque Country, is also known for its great gastronomy. If you are looking for relaxation and you want to know the essence of the north of Spain, this is your place.
