, c/ Barranco, 12, Jerez, Andalucia.
Right in the historic heart of Jerez, La Gitanilla is a traditional Andalusian townhouse set around an inner courtyard. Insulated from the world outside, this delightful patio makes a cosy living room where guests can relax with a book or a drink (sherry, of course!) and soak up the ambience of the house.
Past and present merge in perfect harmony as recent renovation has brought together century-old architectural features with soft, muted, modern colours and materials. La gitanilla means "the little gypsy" and owner Virginia regards the house as one of the family, to be cared for and treasured. Guests too receive the same care and attention.
Most of the guest rooms are ranged around the balconies of the central patio, assuring a quiet comfortable stay with each room decorated to maintain its individuality and character. Facing onto the narrow cobbled street outside, the Superior Room is the largest in the house and catches a special light at certain times of day. Two balconies with iron railings hover above the street. At the top of the house are two penthouse apartments with direct access onto the roof terrace.
The position of La Gitanilla in the old moorish quarter is ideal for visiting the sights of Jerez: the cathedral, the sherry bodegas and the forthcoming Flamenco Museum. All around are the typical tabancos which are an ideal stop for drinks and tapas, before moving on to a flamenco show.
