The Hotel Puerta de las Granadas is situated in the very heart of the old quarter of Granada, at the foot of Granada's famous Alhambra and just a four minute walk from Granada cathedral. The original 19th century building was totally renovated in 2004, retaining the classic townhouse exterior and matching it with a crisp clean contemporary interior. Modern soundproofed rooms feature wooden floors and have a minibar and safe. They are also heated and have a private bathroom with hairdryer and amenities.
The Gomerez rooms are on the front of the building with balconies providing glimpses or views (depending on which floor) of the Torres Bermejas and Torre de la Vela of the Alhambra. One of the rooms on the second floor has an elegant glazed balcony. They all have twin beds. The Mauror rooms face into the patio garden that lies against the Carmen de Mauror walls at the foot of the Alhambra hill. They offer a choice of twin or double beds.
At the very top of the house are the special Mirador rooms, with views over the city. Mirador Alhambra has five windows offering vistas of the cathedral, the Albayzín and the Alhambra. Mirador Catedral gives views of Carmen de Mauror, the cathedral and the Albayzín.
The hotel has a 24-hour reception and a garden terrace. There is a tour desk and parking is available nearby for an extra charge. There are 2 computers which guests can use for free.
This is a location that is just a step away from the life of the city and its greatest monuments. From here you can enjoy the Alhambra (of course), the Albayzín, the restaurants and tapas bars, the museums and the fascinating "old town". Also, being in the largely pedestrianised part, it is surprisingly quiet. All of the city is just a few steps away.
Mauror Rooms
The Mauror rooms look out over the Carmen de Mauror and the patio garden. Choice of twin beds or double beds.
Gomerez Rooms
All the Gomerez rooms look out over the Cuesta Gomerez with views towards the Alhambra. One room on the second floor has a special glazed balcony. The rooms on the third floor also have a view of the Alhambra's Torre de Vela. All have twin beds.
Mirador Catedral
This special room with twin beds and a beamed ceiling has five windows giving views across the city including the cathedral, the Albayzin and the Carmen de Mauror.
Mirador Alhambra
Not surprisingly, the Mirador Alhambra is a penthouse room with a view of the Torre de Vela of the Alhambra, as well as the cathedral and the Albayzin.
Meals
Like many city hotels, Puerta de las Granadas doesn't have its own restaurant. But why worry, when you have so many bars and restaurants in the centre of Granada to choose from? A buffet breakfast is available in the bar-cafeteria, and room service is offered. Free tea and coffee are available during the day.
Out and About
The Alhambra from the hotel
The hotel can provide tickets for the main Granada tourist attractions.
The Alhambra. Undoubtedly the most famous landmark in Granada, it actually consists of a number of separate buildings and parts. Each one is an individual piece of history that teaches you more and more about the Moorish period of Spanish history.
The Albayzín. A UNESCO World Heritage site.
Granada Cathedral and the Royal Chapel where the catholic kings are interred.
Places to visit:
Sierra Nevada. The most southerly ski resort in Europe. This could be your only chance to go skiing in the morning and sunbathing on the beach in the afternoon. In summer too, this is a most beautiful area for exploring.
The Alpujarras. This beautiful and quite remote range of hills on the southern edge of the Sierra Nevada was made famous by the book "Driving Over Lemons".
Beaches. The eastern Costa del Sol (much, much quieter than the western end) is only 50 minutes away by car. Try Nerja, Almuñecar and Playa Granada.
If you go to Nerja, be sure to also visit the picturesque little village of Frigiliana.
Reviews
Reviews from Little Hotels Travellers:
We stayed recently in Puerta de la Granada for two nights.
We thought the room was OK, and we liked the patio garden on floor 2.
The receptionist was absolutely brilliant and helped us to understand how to visit the Alhambra.
We found the room exceptionally noisy and so had a really bad night's sleep.
Little Hotels note:
Spanish cities are often noisy, especially for people not used to it. Puerta de Las Granadas has sound insulation throughout but it does depend on windows being kept shut. |
My husband and I had a very pleasant and comfortable stay at Hotel Puerta De Las Granadas. We were upgraded to room 401 which had a lovely view over roof tops towards one of the towers of the Alhambra fortifications. The receptionists spoke perfect English and answered all our queries about the locations of good restaurants (those in the medium to lower price bracket), and directions to various monuments with clarity and good humour. We would definitely stay at this hotel again but we would not order breakfast as we felt that the price charged was rather expensive for what was provided. |

We Say
Hotel Puerta de las Granadas is right beside the Puerta de las Granadas (the main gateway into the Alhambra). This is a hotel that makes you feel a part of the city, and places all the major sights within walking distance.
A Word from the Owner
In April of 2004 the total renovation of a listed house from the XIX Century, placed in the heart of the historic quarter was finished. With this perfect location our clients have just a few steps away, the most important city monuments, Alhambra 150m; the Albaizyn, the Cathedral and the Royal Chapel 200m, the whole city is just a step away. We have kept the traditional spirit of an old building but we gave it maximum comfort by adding a modern and minimalist decor. Our idea as a small and charming hotel is to give the client a more direct and personal treatment, making sure that the guest not only visits the monuments but also the most traditional places that only the local people know.We wish that the travellers staying at our hotel feel more like a personal guest than a client and when they leave we would like to stay in their memory as friends that they will return to visit some day.
