The hotel was built originally in 1881 when it served as a barn and stables. Outside is traditional stone, blending comfortably into its environment, but today the interior is fresh and modern with simple lines and generous use of natural materials for the floors and furnishings. All this reflects in the service too, which is warm and friendly.
There are 8 double bedrooms, 2 junior suites and 2 garden suites, all decorated individually but with the same care and attention throughout. All the modern facilities you could expect are there; en-suite bathroom, telephone, television, minibar, DVD and internet. Eating facilities in the Jardín de Carrejo are limited, but the owner will recommend local restaurants and arrange the bookings for you. There are ample places to sit and relax; inside in the lounge, outside on the verandah or just anywhere you like in the garden.
A collection of contemporary Spanish photographs by well-known photographers is hung throughout the hotel.
Meals
There is no restaurant as such, but light meals are available in the evening. English or Continental breakfasts are served either in the dining room or in your bedroom or suite. The hotel will suggest local restaurants for you, and make bookings if you want.

Reviews
Reviews from Little Hotels Travellers:
This hotel looked fantastic from outside but our room was looking a little tired. There were worrying cracks in the ceiling, broken tiles in the bathroom and generally the room was ready for a lick of paint. Having said that it was spotlessly clean.
It is time for the owners to plough back in some money to keep the wonderful property up to standard.
The people were super - very friendly and accommodating. The beds were fantastic - nice hard mattress.
The breakfasts and evening meals were worth paying extra for. A huge array to choose from for breakfast. The evening meals were excellent - fine dining at a reasonable price.
Rather disappointing was that it lacked atmosphere. Perhaps this was because it was the end of the season but some nice music in the back ground would have helped.
The countryside around the hotel and up into the mountains was breathtakingly beautiful.
All in all I would mark it a 5 out of 10. With some work done on updating it could easily get an 8 out of 10. |
| A lovely country house not too far from Santander, in magnificant gardens. The rooms are great, the meals are wonderful, the staff getting things just right. We enthusiastically commend this hotel. |
I wanted to let you know that we were delighted with our stay at the above hotel. The house itself was beautiful and relaxing and also stylish and quirky, the setting is wonderful and the owners and staff welcoming and friendly. It was hard to tear ourselves away.
Thank you very much for the recommendation... |

We Say
This hotel is only 25 miles from Santander so it is an ideal first or last stop if you take your car over on the ferry. Don't be tempted to just rush through though. Enjoy the lovely gardens of the hotel and take a look at some of the local sights. We loved Santillana del Mar, a picturesque little village of old stone and timber houses. It's all pedestrianised apart from the vehicles of a few locals who still live (and farm!) in the old village. We would also have liked to see the cave paintings in Cuevas de Altamira but visitor numbers are restricted for preservation reasons, so you have to book months in advance. The rest of the cave is open as normal though.
A Word from the Owner
Within grounds of 3 hectares, surrounded by nature and tranquility, our house is a haven of relaxation. From here, everything is nearby: Santillana del Mar, Santander, Comillas, the Picos de Europa, etc. We promise you an unforgettable stay in a special place.
