La Joya de Cabo de Gata is the dream and the inspiration of founder Charo García, who created this little country estate amongst the dazzling whiteness and arid hills of Almería. She encourages everyone who comes to join the Slow Revolution even if only for a little while: live slow, cook slow and travel slow. Enjoy the moment.
The Cortijo consists of three independent cottages situated on a hill facing a ravine, the Cañada Morena, and the coast of the Cabo de Gata Natural Park. The grounds extend to several acres and have been carefully planted with native Mediterranean species. The garden is a place to get lost in, where peace and quiet is hidden around every corner. A Phoenician swimming pool and an open air Jacuzzi, in which to enjoy the morning, the beauty of the desert’s light at dusk or the endless stars of the night sky. Lovely corners and cane-shaded areas in which to read or just daydream, contemplate, sleep or treat yourself. At the highest point there are the best views of the Mediterranean Sea and village of Agua Amarga. Here you can also make use of a barbecue area with all that you might need to grill your dinner, and a shaded alfresco dining area.
All three cottages at La Joya have been designed to make your stay comfortable at any time of the year, both during the mild coastal winters or in the warm summers. Every house has covered terraces, some even two, one facing east and the other west. Under these porches you can breakfast, read or converse surrounded by the magnificent views of the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata.
Less than two kilometres away is Agua Amarga, a village where you will find shops, bars and restaurants, and a long sandy beach that is just lightly touched by tourism. For totally virgin beaches, go just a little further and sample Cala Enmedio or Playa de Los Muertos.
Cala Aguamarga (for 2 guests)
Aguamarga is a loft-style apartment, a dream of a place decorated in the style that combines both sides of the Mediterranean Sea. It’s a sixty square metre space with large windows, beautiful cement mosaic floors and comfortable seating. The dining room and well-equipped kitchen are both part of the same space but with well-defined zones. The bedroom has views to the Cañada Morena, with a double bed and high quality cotton bed linen. It also has a dressing room and a bathroom with a spacious shower with filtered natural light; ecological care products, hair dryer and bathrobes. There is a fireplace and the apartment is also equipped with underfloor central heating and air conditioner, TV, DVD-CD, stereo, internal telephone and Wi-Fi. There is also a cosy corner for reading peacefully or for watching a good film. The thirty-five square metre porch is furnished and is a lovely place to have breakfast, enjoy a good conversation, tranquillity or the fantastic views.

Thanks for looking after us just like we needed: an immense sensation of peace and tranquillity. A soak in the jacuzzi under the stars was sublime! Thanks to Tania for caring for us: we'll be back as soon as we can. |
A warm welcome despite the pouring rain, we felt immediately at home at 'Charo's House'. The grounds are stunning and very well looked after. The guest house was spacious and included a lovely mezzanine bed for our daughter. The location is secluded and quiet with gorgeous views of the mountains and the sea. Everything you need to make the most of your time in this special part of the world is on hand. There are beach umbrellas to borrow, massage therapist available, a wonderful BBQ set up and even a spare yoga mat. A true home from home and we can't wait to return! |
An incredible place. If you're looking for peace and relaxation, this is for you. |
We had an unforgettable time. As if it wasn't enough just being in the magical Cabo de Gata, but if you want a quiet place where you can disconnect from your usual routine, this is it. |
