Back in the summer of 2007 the delightful villa La Madrugada, which once belonged to the famous British soprano Sarah Brightman, was transformed into a small luxurious and charming hotel. The building sits in a big garden full of exotic plants and with tremendous views right down to the coast.
A broad terrace in front of the hotel provides lots of relaxing and sunbathing space and a large swimming pool. Look out from here to the Peñon de Ifach (the huge rock at Calpe) on the coast, back towards the mountains or focus closer on the surrounding terraces of fruit trees and olives.
The public rooms of the hotel and the guest rooms are all luxuriously furnished and decorated, and all enjoy the great views. Each of the guest rooms has a full bathroom, safe, minibar, television, heating and air-conditioning, and the suite also benefits from a private terrace and a jacuzzi bath.
La Madrugada's position is outstanding, close to all the activities of the coast yet one step removed from the hurly-burly. The hillside affords a brilliant view while all around there are fields, fruit trees, olives and a sprinkling of private villas.

The restaurant occupies a lovely position close to the pool. Indoors or outdoors according to the time of year.
Out and About
Rock of Ifach, Calpe
Walking, hiking, cycling, bike hire, horse riding, tennis, caving, all water sports, gym, bowling, historic site.
Places to visit:
Calpe: A small town on the coast, dominated by the Rock of Ifach. You can climb to the 300m summit.
Cordillera Penibetica: mountains ideal for walking and cycling. Lots of old forts and castles.
Guadalest: A tiny mountain village, with a unique mountain-top eyrie.
Guadalest Lake: A man-made expanse of water in the mountains, with excellent walks.
Jalón: The heart of the Jalón valley. Go on a Saturday morning for the famous market.
Fuentes Del Algar: Plunge yourself in the cool, clear water at the foot of the waterfalls, or enjoy a walk along the banks of the river.
Altea: A very authentic traditional Spanish town. On summer evenings artists display their work in the square.
Elche: Home to the famous statue "La Dama De Elche".
Huerto Del Cura: A unique garden established over 100 years ago, specialising in cacti.

We had a fantastic stay at La Madrugada.
The feeling of being "in your own house" while serviced by the owner on anything from 3 star restaurants to good beaches was great. Between meals and afternoon naps in the sun it was lovely to be able to enjoy a game of tennis or a swim in the pool overlooking the ocean.
We would recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a truly relaxing vacation in style.

The bedrooms are delightful, spacious and decorated to an excellent standard and the staff could not have been more helpful. We stayed there during my father's funeral in early May. Calpe was one of my father's favourite places and to look down on the rock from the cabana on the pool deck was something else!
The staff were impeccable, extremely helpful and bend over backwards. Lovely. The owner Bert helped us out with some difficult things related to the funeral.
We also had an incredible meal over at Casa Del Maco, another fabulous establishment!
