Hotel Palau Lo Mirador was once a royal palace, first documented in 1385. The present building dates from the late 19th century, when the palace was re-created as one of the great houses of Cataluña. Today it is a great hotel, in the heart of the village of Torroella, in the heart of Empordá, in the heart of the Costa Brava. Situated only 5 km from the beaches of L'Estartit and close to the medieval villages of Pals, this is a fine location for a holiday.
Almost 2 acres of garden insulates the hotel from the rest of the town. There are expanses of well-manicured lawn, a pool with sun terrace, and plenty of trees when you need a spot of shade.
Meanwhile the interior of the hotel is a delight, richly decorated and cleverly designed, and the gothic patio is a really special feature. It's a great place to relax and sip a cocktail or aperitif. The bedrooms were totally renovated quite recently, and they all provide luxurious accommodation and great views of the garden or the village. Some rooms feature a small balcony, and between them there is a mix of double and twin beds, hydromassage baths and showers.

Meals
The restaurant is housed in the old coach house, where the principal architectural feature is the floor mosaic created from river pebbles by the architect Rafael Masó one hundred years ago. The cuisine at Palau Lo Mirador makes the fullest possible use of local ingredients: fresh fish from Roses, vegetables from Empordá, beef from Girona and ice cream from the local specialist pastelería in Torroella. In summer, restaurant service is also available in the garden.
Out and About
Costa Brava
The beaches, village and marina at L'Estartit are only 5 km away.
Islas Medas nature reserve, near L'Estartit.
Llafranc, Calella, Aiguablava and Begur are not much farther away, which are known as some of the best beaches of the Costa Brava.
There are outstanding walks and cycle routes all around the Emporda area, and as the "wild coast" (Costa Brava) doesn't really extend its wildness inland, the going is fairly easy.

Reviews
Reviews from Little Hotels Travellers:
We enjoyed a delightful five days' stay here in April.
The location is good for road and rail connections and an easy drive to the coast.
The hotel itself is a fascinating building which has been
sympathetically restored. It's centally placed in town and is popular with local people.. in fact a wedding was held there during our stay.. a lovely family affair. [Reception was in a separate pretty annex]
The staff were both professional and helpful; our Spanish was improved by impromptu, amusing lessons.
We had a characterful room with far-reaching views.
There's a pool, though it was too cool for bathing!
The meals are delicious and excellent value .. served in a lovely old part of the building, often in the company of local folks. We had BnB .. and enjoyed other meals there as well.
We are certainly glad we chose La Palau Mirador, it made the drive through France into Spain worthwhile. |
Stayed one night at this lovely hotel. Room spacious and comfortable. Had our evening meal in the hotel which was very nice and reasonably priced. Loved the swimming pool and grounds and all the staff were extremely nice and helpful, would definitely recommend this hotel as though in a town you feel you are in the countryside. |
This is one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in. The old medieval building is beautifully restored and the rooms very comfortable. The restaurant serves excellent food at a very reasonable price. The staff are very helpful. We would definitely go there again. |

We Say
This imposing little hotel enjoys the benefit of being in the centre of Torroella, yet remains apart. Great house, great place, great coastline.
