Boutique Hotel Real La Joya is a haven of peace and privacy just a short distance from the sea at Agua Amarga. There are twelve exclusive suites each with a private entrance and an ample terrace.
The hotel is surrounded by gardens filled with bright red bougainvilleas, mighty palms and ancient olive trees, providing an exuberant contrast to the desert-like hills of the Cabo de Gata Natural Park. The swimming pool has a broad terrace with sunbeds and shades, and there is an open-air jacuzzi. Alongside is the garden lounge where pergolas and sofas make a lovely spot to relax in the shade, have a drink and read a book or magazine. The indoor lounge has comfy sofas, plus a workstation and complimentary tea and coffee.
Dining is a highlight of a stay at Real La Joya. The chef brings his experience from various international restaurants, emphasising passion for Mediterranean cuisine and a respect for local produce. As dusk turns to night after dinner, the clear air of Almería opens up a romantic vista of the moon and stars.
Even the smallest rooms are 25m2 with a patio of 10m2 with jacuzzi. Although they are the only rooms with a sea view, stairs lead from the patio to a sun terrace with expansive views of the mountains and the bay at Agua Amarga. The beds are kingsize, the showers are double-size and there are minibars and coffee machines. The other rooms are junior suites and suites, rising in size to the Deluxe Suite of 40m2 with 50m2 of terrace. This suite is especially sheltered and ideal for those seeking a high degree of privacy.
Cabo de Gata Natural Park is a large protected area of wild nature, towering cliffs and soft sandy beaches. Towards Almería are the salt pans where vast flocks of flamingos gather, and the city itself is a worthy visit. Just a short way inland is Europe's only desert and the location for the filming of many spaghetti westerns, Lawrence of Arabia and Indiana Jones. A visit to the film village at Fort Bravo is a unique experience.
