Villa Retiro was created at the end of the 19th century by the architect Josep Fontsere in the style of the moment, Modernism. However, given the background of his client in South America, he gave the house a spectacular colonial twist and surrounded it with an extensive sub-tropical garden which included a waterfall and lake.
Today Villa Retiro is a 5 Star hotel with a Michelin-starred restaurant. Although it was given a thorough renovation in the 21st century, the house and garden remain true to their roots. Guests can enjoy days by the pool or strolling in the exuberantly verdant garden, or perhaps indulge themselves in the spa where there is a huge range of treatments and massages at their disposal.
The Torreó de l'India restaurant at Villa Retiro gained it's Michelin Star under the supervision of Chef Fran López. His style of cuisine draws on both the local and the whole of Spain, mixing traditional cooking with his own personal innovations. Alongside Fran, Sommelier Javier Campo is in charge of the bodega, where he maintains not just a huge selection of Spanish and international wines but also whiskies, brandies, gins and more.
Beautiful furniture, exquisite decorations and space in abundance are a given in the bedrooms and suites. Yet there are also all the comforts and conveniences of the 21st century, including wi-fi internet, plasma-screen TVs, air-conditioning, heating and a minibar.
Situated in the south of Catalonia, Xerta is slightly removed from the usual tourist trail. Yet as well as the historic city of Tarragona, it is an ideal place for exploring the region of the Ebro Delta or visiting the little-known beaches of this section of coast.

Meals
Fran Lopez is the guiding light in the kitchen of the Torreó de l'India restaurant. He won the restaurant it's Michelin star in 2009 and has helped to retain it ever since. Here's What Some People Have Written On Other Review Sites or in the Guestbook:
We went for our wedding anniversary and we couldn't have been more satisfied. We loved the spa, which is a real marvel. After the spa we enjoyed a meal in the restaurant and the quality was superb. |
From the moment you enter the grounds you can see the painstaking care and love which is lavished on the garden. Wonderful. The service too is unbeatable. The room is huge and full of lovely little details. This great (in quality) little (in size) hotel is a joy for all the senses: beauty, silence, tranquillity, perfect service. |
An ideal place to relax in a tranquil setting, the hotel is an old country house with every detail correct and an excellent restaurant. Totally recommended, both for a stay and for the restaurant. |
