When is a hotel not a hotel? When it’s The Sea Club. The Cumberlege family came to this villa over 50 years ago, and have continued to run and own it ever since, evolving it into a small hotel that feels like a private house party. It’s a beautifully maintained old colonial residence on the edge of Cala Ratjada right on the edge of the Mediterranean. The hotel consists of 17 individually designed en-suite rooms with a hacienda style garden, private bar and a large swimming pool. Within the grounds, individual casitas, cottages, and sunny patios lend Mallorcan charm to this uniquely private place.
The Sea Club has an amazing relaxed atmosphere, and there are hidden little corners everywhere where guests can escape for a little solitude. Or for a little more company there is the bar where all guests seem to become immediate friends. From the last week of June to the first week of September The Sea Club becomes a very social and lively place with many return families and friends enjoying the vibrant atmosphere in the sun.
The rooms are highly individual, impeccably appointed in an eclectic mix with traditional Mallorcan, old English and contemporary modern furnishings. Naturally all rooms have bathrooms en-suite, some with a bath and others with just a shower. Many rooms have sea views where guests can watch yachts coming and going from the nearby marina and harbour, while the rest look onto the idyllic gardens and swimming pool.
The Sea Club is the perfect venue for visitors wanting the best of the present day blended with an ambience of former times. The position on the edge of the water is unbeatable, and the location in the north-east corner of the island gives easy access to long sandy beaches, the tiny calas of the east coast and the rocky coastline of the west.
Meals
A typical continental breakfast is served or you can order an English breakfast between 8.30-10.30 am. Continental breakfast includes different fresh breads, pastries, toast, jams, marmalade, fruit, a selection of hams and cheeses, yogurts, cereals, juices, coffee and tea. English breakfast comprises of fried, boiled, poached or scrambled eggs with bacon and tomato, or smoked salmon. If you have a special requirement or allergies the hotel can provide an alternative for you.

Try thenew “Cocktails & Cuisine” concept offering an exciting and creative culinary experience 6 days a week for guests or visitors during lunch and dinner. The kitchen is open from 13:30 to 16:00 hours and from 19:00 to 22:30.

Four rooms situated on the ground floor, with a terrace, with the possibility to have them either as a double or a twin. Room facilities: Bathroom amenities, Hairdryer, Central Heating, Ceiling Fan, Air conditioning, Wardrobe, Safe and Free Wifi.

Four rooms have double beds, and one has twin beds which can also be made into a double. All with their own terrace. Two of the rooms ialso have the option of taking an extra bed, perfect for small families. Four rooms located in the front of the house and the other on the first floor. All rooms have a terrace and the front rooms have sun loungers on their terraces overlooking the sea. The Sea Club in Cala Ratjada is the most wonderful oasis in a beautiful part of Majorca. In fact, I am almost tempted not to write too good a review, as I want to keep this place a secret! The Sea Club is informal, relaxed and special. If you are looking for marble interiors and all that goes with that type of hotel, this is not for you. We stayed in room 3, which has a glorious sea view, and while not overly large, had everything we needed including a small terrace. I would describe the décor as ‘shabby chic’ but in a positive way. Good home cooked food is served. The buffet breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. My husband indulged in a full English breakfast each day, while I enjoyed the fresh fruit, pastries etc. There is a simple lunch menu and supper is buffet style with a theme each day – paella, chicken, tapas etc, all very fresh and delicious. The bar is well stocked and reasonably priced and if nobody is around to serve you, you just jot your room number down and serve yourself. This quirk just makes you feel even more at home! But I haven’t really got to the reason why this place is so special. It is the people that make it. The family who run the hotel, Luis, Jenny, Nick and Luke immediately made us welcome in their home and went out of there way to make sure we had everything we needed. The mix of guests, many who have been coming to The Sea Club for years, were great fun and added hugely to our holiday. Oh and I mustn’t forget the various dogs and cats that wander around the property. They are definitely an integral part of what we have decided is our favourite hotel. |

| Very Few Like This Place Around Anywhere. Coming from Cape Town, South Africa, we are fortunate to have many beautiful places to visit and stay. However, the Sea Club in Cala Ratjada ranks with the best places we have stayed anywhere on our travels. Initially, what makes The Sea Club so inviting is the warmth of the welcome that one receives from Luis, Jenny, their family and staff. Permeating the property is the long family history of the Cumberleges who have owned it for more than 50 years. Further, its front, which is used for drinks, meals and relaxation, is very close to the sea and reminded this reviewer of traditional seaside architecture along Southern Hemisphere lines. Diving off the adjacent rocks was a favoured occupation for our teenagers. Our sea-facing room was exceptional. Unusually, guests that want to, and most do, eat the communal dinner, with wine thrown in, with the hosts, which as well as producing home-cooked food of a very high standard, provides a sense of occasion, humour, good repartee and fun. The honesty bar near the generously-proportioned pool is another focal point for the joie de vivre that is the hallmark of the place. Overall, a unique and outstanding oasis in a beautiful spot, embracing all the best traditions of sincere though unforced hospitality, a convivial atmosphere and good company. |
