Hotel Taray en Orgiva is situated right in the heart of the Alpujarras, the famous range of hills and mountains that stretch from the Mediterranean coast around Motril up to the peaks of the Sierra Nevada. The hotel is modern, yet fully in keeping with its surroundings, having classical Spanish white walls and pantiled roofs, along with slate eaves and earthenware tiles which are so typical of the Alpujarras.
The extensive grounds of Hotel Taray include gardens, orchard, arboretum and plenty of lawns and terraces for sun-bathing and relaxing with the fabulous views. This is an uncharacteristically green part of Andalucia, watered by the streams pouring off the mountains all around. The huge swimming pool is divided into two, and surrounded by trees, especially oranges, olives and palms. Exclusively for the use of guests, the pool is open from late April to the end of October.
The main building has two dining rooms, a café-bar, a lounge and a big terrace with which looks out at the Sierra de Lujar and the Guadalfeo valley. Just like the gardens outside, every corner is filled with plants.
The fifteen guest rooms are built bungalow-style in the garden, some with their own sitting rooms and terraces. The interiors are fresh, clean and simple but it is what lies outside that is really special: the verdant garden, exotic plants and views up to the mountains.
The village of Orgiva is within walking distance and provides an interesting mix of old Spanish traditions and strangely new-age alternatives. Granada of course is only an hour away by car and a drive down to the coast would only take about 45 minutes, provided you could resist the temptation to stop and gaze at every new sight that opens up around the next corner.

Reviews
Reviews from Little Hotels Travellers:
What a lovely place to stay. Really well run, staff always had a smile ready, and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely food, the rooms are not luxurious but everything you require is there. Beautifully clean, in good condition and everything working and it's really good value, not expensive at all. Gardens are lovely, really peaceful. The hotel is perfect for touring the area. Our suite had an entrance lobby, separate lounge and bedroom and an upstairs sun lounge with excellent views over the garden and the surrounding area.
A wonderfully peaceful week's stay. |
Hotel Taray Botanico in a stunning area which was interesting to explore. It was also close enough to Granada to be able to visit for a day. I found the bedroom rather dark and I did not like the long lines of bedrooms which meant that I ended up away from the main hotel block. The dining room, bar/ main area was fine and the staff friendly and attentive. The food was good value and tasty.I think more could be done with the gardens and parking area to make them look prettier. |
This is without doubt an extraordinary hotel.
The surrounding ground make this a really pleasant place to stay, the pool is tucked in a quiet corner and both food and staff are good.
Next time I would book one of the rooms with a sitting room as the shared terrace is rather small and more of an entrance porch.
The surrounding area is fascinating with some really interesting villages to visit and the coast being only 30 minutes away.
We didn't make Granada, preferring to laze around Taray's pool instead.
I'm sure we will return in the not too distant future. |
Very good. Staff/owner extremely helpful and friendly. |
Thank you for organising our stay at Hotel Taray Botanico. We thought it was a lovely hotel with such lovely, friendly staff. Great pool and such a peaceful setting in the mountains. The food in the hotel was great too and reasonably priced. Generally good value for money.
We did find Orgiva as a village a little limiting - sadly there are very few nice restaurants there. But the surrounding areas were wonderful and great for a walk in the mountains.
Thank you for organising I will certainly come back to you for my next Spainish (or Moroccan) venture and recommend your site. |
I have just returned from the most fantastic stay at the Hotel Taray - what a stunning hotel but yet so laid back and friendly. It really felt like a home from home. We stayed with our 3 month old baby and they made us feel so welcome - nothing was too much trouble. I can't wait until we go back!
Thanks so much for helping me find out about this hotel and for making the booking. |

We Say
Deep in an Alpujarra valley, the Hotel Taray is a riot of greenery set off by the large swimming pools. And always wherever you look, there are the mountains in the background.
