"Fervenza" is a local word meaning a "waterfall". This ancient watermill (with records going back to the 16th century) has been restored as a hotel and restaurant that carefully preserves the atmosphere of an old Galician country house and which stands out for offering an authentic rural holiday experience. Hand-woven linen curtains, old wooden beams, exposed stonework and chestnut-boarded floors are just some of the delightful features you will find. A television is not.

Lost in the solitude of the forest, for those who venture just a little further off the beaten track than most, Casa Grande da Fervenza offers hospitality and good fare. The guest rooms are not huge, but they really portray Galician country living, and there is plenty of space to settle down and relax in the rest of the hotel.

This is rural tourism at its best, without sacrificing comfort. In 2007 the hotel owners won the National Forest of the Year award for the care and conservation they lavish on their land. Hill-walking routes start and end right by the hotel. In the evenings you may even be lucky enough to see otters at play in the river.

If there is a price to pay, it's the driving distance. You will drive a long way to get here, and you will find that some of the "local" amenities are a few miles away. But driving in Galicia is another pleasure in itself.

We Say

The location here is stunning for anyone who appreciates the beauty of nature, whether you want to walk in it, drive in it, cycle in it, swim in it, fish in it, or simply sit and watch it gently pass you by. If you're wondering where the local night clubs are, this place is not for you.

A Word from the Owner

"Our doors are open to each and every traveller who wishes to submerge his senses in the murmur of the river Miño. The river passes right by us, forming a cascade and a small island, and all around us are oak trees over three hundred years old."
