"Fervenza" is a local word meaning a "waterfall". This ancient watermill (with records going back to the 16th century) has been restored as a hotel and restaurant that carefully preserves the atmosphere of an old Galician country house and which stands out for offering an authentic rural holiday experience. Hand-woven linen curtains, old wooden beams, exposed stonework and chestnut-boarded floors are just some of the delightful features you will find. A television is not.
Lost in the solitude of the forest, for those who venture just a little further off the beaten track than most, Casa Grande da Fervenza offers hospitality and good fare. The guest rooms are not huge, but they really portray Galician country living, and there is plenty of space to settle down and relax in the rest of the hotel.
This is rural tourism at its best, without sacrificing comfort. In 2007 the hotel owners won the National Forest of the Year award for the care and conservation they lavish on their land. Hill-walking routes start and end right by the hotel. In the evenings you may even be lucky enough to see otters at play in the river.
If there is a price to pay, it's the driving distance. You will drive a long way to get here, and you will find that some of the "local" amenities are a few miles away. But driving in Galicia is another pleasure in itself.

Reviews
Reviews from Little Hotels Travellers:
| The hotel was as expected and fulfilled all our expectation and even the reality better than the shown photos. The rooms were marvelous, the surroundings very good and the 14 km walk along the river to Lugo was a very good experience as well as the canoeing down the river from the highway bridge crossing up the river from the hotel, which we reach by a big taxi. The service and the maintenance of the main building could have been better but at the end we had a very good farewell family dinner with good service for all 10 of us. |
Fantastic place. Such unique rooms - beams, wonderful furniture, yet modern and sumptuous bathrooms. And the restaurant - food you savour, wines you treasure and staff who are so accommodating and attentive, it's just heaven.
This place has a location to die for - the sounds of the spring dribbling over the hillside outside your window is enough to lull you to eternal rest but then there's the rapids of the river in the distance.
We thoroughly loved our short-stay and plan to return with friends and family. This place is a gem. |
We indeed had a wonderfull time.
At the Fervenza the envirement was astonishing beautyfull, very quiet.
The room was o.k. but there was a problem with internet, we had no internet at all. There was nobody who could speak English. |
| This is such a calming place, you couldn't get further from the madding crowd. The river is as clean and full of life as any I have known, quite literally teaming with fish and frogs. The walking and cycling is easy and safe, there is very little traffic and the paths well marked (if in doubt, just follow the pilgrims heading to Santiago). The culture was recognisably Celtic, quite different to other parts of Spain. The climate was perfect, hot in the day and cool at night. The local towns and sites held plenty of secrets to discover. The restaurant menu was excellent and the local wine its equal. The hotel's management and staff were always available but never intrusive. The bedrooms are comfortable and full of character, though not spacious, but there is plenty of shared space to sit in. We had a great stay and would happily return. |

We Say
The location here is stunning for anyone who appreciates the beauty of nature, whether you want to walk in it, drive in it, cycle in it, swim in it, fish in it, or simply sit and watch it gently pass you by. If you're wondering where the local night clubs are, this place is not for you.
A Word from the Owner
"Our doors are open to each and every traveller who wishes to submerge his senses in the murmur of the river Miño. The river passes right by us, forming a cascade and a small island, and all around us are oak trees over three hundred years old."
